she has an infected gland shes on anti bitotics and pain meds now. she has to stay in her cage until it heals shes kinda mad about that lol. but they said shell be okay! thanks everyone!!

That's her preen gland. It makes an oil for her to spread on her feathers to keep them waterproof, and clean. It is a sort of common ailment. You did the right thing bringing her in ASAP. It is not life threatening. I've seen this before. Follow vets info, she'll be okay.

BTW, glad you found that. But, you should not be rubbing or scratching her that low on her back or rump. Could lead to hormonal issues. Many of us caution people about scratching them in inappropriate places. Still, glad you found it!

That's what I thought it was, but wasn't sure. It's a fairly common thing for it to get infected? I've never had that before, but that's good to know.

Maybe it can get infected if scratched by human hands/nails, which might not always be the cleanest...

Is it common for their preen gland to become plugged or infected ? What causes it ? Is it diet related ?
Thanks :)

I've seen it in pictures before but I can not remember what causes it....So my first instinct was correct when I said I wonder if her gland was infected....

Hey Coral, how is Ms Mikko doing ?? She out of jail yet?

You should take her as soon as possible!!! You don't know what could happen if you wait!So you hurrytummytuck Atlantaand take her in as soon as your possible. You also faced some feeding and breeding problem . You must feed some liquid food and others bird seeders which are easy to take for her.I think she loves you very much after that. Some birds are made some critical conditions, Like as, bleeding, sketching, freezing etc. You must ready for that.
