Probably should have said hello here first (thanks to mikeyTN for the advice).

My name's matt - I'm a 20-something out of madison, WI.

I live with four feathered guys and girls, and three non-feathered ones, so it's a full house. We have far too many cages, and an aviary in the backyard. Sadly, only olivia and charlie can fly right now - cockatiels that will land on anything, including your head. Nugget's our newest addition - he's a rescue ("I'm going off to college, I just don't have time"), and Ziggy's our old man, a blue-crown of unknown age but incredible personality. We're guessing ten. Ten's a good number, right? It took four years for him (from when we took him home) to stop feather plucking, biting everyone, and accept us all as family, so we just added six years and called it a day. His favorite hobbies are singing at the pizza delivery guy, licking your ears, and chanting "pretty bird" so you'll give him a peanut.

Working with rescues, I've helped raise, fledge, and re-train, and re-home everything from budgies, lovebirds, and amazons to B&G macaws, and I've had my arms, hands, and face ripped apart my fair share of times. I wish I had the household for a macaw, but sadly, it will likely never happen (there's nothing more depressing than a Macaw in a tiny shelter cage, gnashing at friendly hands trying to feed it). Even the angry abused ones are still majestic, and it's hard to not fall in love with every one of them. :( I know I'm a future bird hoarder - my girlfriend keeps me in check.

My house is pretty much an open one for the birds - Nugget's currently learning his manners on where it is acceptable to relieve himself, and what's okay to chew on, thankfully my job has limited work hours and I get to be home for the majority of the day working from home at a second job to supervise open cages and free flight!

I love my family - and it's going to be that way for a long time! :)

Well, thank you for the introduction!!!! Show us some pictures of your birds if you get the chance! And sadly I know all about rescuing birds all too well....

Welcome to the forum!!!!

My oldest confirmed aged bird is Charlie, my mitred conure, who's 19 years old. Granted, some of the tiels could be older than him!

My youngest is Jayde, my red throated conure. If I understood her birthdate correctly, she'll be 4 in January.

A forum member has a cherry headed conure that's 31 years old! I've seen pictures of a mitred conure that is supposedly 40 years old (well, might be 41 now!), and Mickaboo has a blue crown conure that could be 42 years old!

So conures do have the chance to live pretty long lives!!!! :)
