So I've read plenty of resources online that say eggshells are OK to feed to your parrot, but I've also read a number of sources that say the vast majority of vets do not recommend them.

So what gives?

I think we all know the potential benefits of eggshells (regarding calcium) but what are the dangers if any? And if OK to serve what is the protocol for preparing? Can the membrane be on the eggshell?

Think the thing is to make sure that they are clean and read about microwaving them and then crushing. I would hope that after boiling for 20 minutes the shell would be good.

Crush to a fine powder and that can then be sprinkled onto food.

Some AV's have seen punctured crops from shells and bones being fed.

I crush them and bake for an hour in birdie bread and if I put in scrambled egg, I crush and microwave first and then cook in the scrambled eggs.

So I saved about 7 eggshells, cleaned them, baked them, then crushed them in my Magic Bullit. Came out really fine, I was surprised, I will add them as a sprinkle to Perjo's food for awhile to see if she will take to it, I will end up adding them to all birdie bread recipes from now on.
