My Eclectus Rocky now has 8 months and weighs 400 grams. I wonder at what age Eclectus grows and which is their ideal weight ?
And another question, do you know which subspecies of Eclectus my Rocky belonged to?
Hello and welcome!! Rocky is quite a handsome fellow!
You can consider him essentially fully grown, physically. Depending on his subspecies he's right around where he needs to be, though it's entirely possible he may pack on possibly another 20-30 grams. But he's still young and has not hit puberty yet, which will be its own thing.
No News to you, but you have a flyer! This will result in a healthier and stronger Parrot. It will also have an effect of the perception of his weight. When you visit your Certified Avian Vet (CAV) for his yearly check-up, please start with: My Eclectus is a Flyer!!! It will change the way and possibly the number of individuals that will hold him during the examination!
Pay close attention to his diet needs, assure you are providing the proper diet for an Eclectus.
Love the Photo of him flying!
I'm an Amazon Snob, so I will not be providing you any information about his specific species, other then he is clearly not an Amazon!
The males are extremely difficult difficult to distinguish, and have particularly been subject to extensive cross breeding out of pure ignorance, especially in the US. However, Id place my money on Solomons island, or a mix thereof.
