I would ask for advice and help I do not know if this is part of normal feather change because it does not look like that. So Rocky It's about a year and a half old mail Eclectus may have been replacing a feather with some normal wings, tails, etc ... but in the last three days evenly this has become suspicious because I see that there are a lot of feathers below it and I see that it's all about the chest and on this lace knew a lace of green and red feathers from her chest. It only remains gray feathers on the chest I want to say it did not bark to the naked skin but I care about it and it is a bit nervous. Please advise me if any help is welcome

Looks like plucking to me. A trip to the vet will rule out medical causes, but it could just be behavioral.

Second on the plucking. I'd get an evaluation to rule out allergies, diet, hormones, illness, etc. Plucking should be addressed quickly and diligently--it's similar to fingernail biting in kids. Although not uncommon, it can become a life long habit if not dealt with in a positive manner. Usual causes for plucking other than mentioned above are either stress or boredom---but regardless, something is going on with your boy and it's your responsibility to fix it. Plucked feathers, over time, may not grow back and then you have the challenges of keeping a naked bird warm/cool and comfy since his natural system has been compromised. Best of luck to you, keep reading here on the forum for advice from others who have this issue. Read Katie/Jaspers thread from this fall/winter to see what she went through. In the end it was a relatively simple fix--more calcium in his diet, but poor Katie was put through the mill trying to figure it out. Kudos to her that she didnt give up. Jasper is one lucky bird to have a mom like her.

I will echo what others have said and will add that it would definitely be wise to schedule a vet visit!

Plucking can be from a number of things... but as mentioned most of the time it is from boredom, stress or poor diet. What is his current diet? Have there been any changes to your schedule lately, or his quality out of cage time? Is he being mentally stimulated throughout the day with training and toys? What types of toys do you have for him to keep him entertained? Do you provide wood for chewing?

I hope your ekkie will recover quickly and you can get to the bottom of the plucking. Poor baby!

What sweet little guy. I agree first thing is to take him to a certified avian vet asap. I see two things that should be looked at. His beak might be a touch long and that yellow feather on his chest. The yellow feather could be indicative of several issues which should be address immediately. It could be as simple as pellets vs fresh veggies. One other thing, has he been wing flipping and/or toe tapping? look those up on youtube you'll see examples from first signs to severe conditions.
You can fix this. Have faith, go to a CAV, do your homework and follow through. He's counting on you.
things you might need to do after the vet visit.
-Address why the yellow feather has turned (according to CAV).
-might need medication
-might be diet related
-might just be a mutation.
-Look for anything that might be causing metal or other toxicity.
-Change or upgrade his diet.
-stop seeds
-introduce sprouts
-stop all fortified pellets.
-stop all multicolored pellets
-ideas for his meals - nutrition
-get a hanging skewer for some of his food.
-Change or upgrade his toys.
-More foraging toys.
-toys that keep his beak busy.
-Introduce training sessions, flight recall sessions and playtime.
-Increase or decrease his sleep time.
-Increase humidity.
-Shower more or less.
-More overall interaction.

I know you might feel discouraged but this can be fixable. best of luck and keep us posted.

I should say that if and when you have to change his diet, it'll be gradual thing...you don't want him to starve of course.

Excellent points above, and particularly exceptional post by Uglow. Yes, given the overly long beak and that yellow feather, there is a chance your boy's plucking might be diet-related. You definitely want to get your guy out to a CAV as soon as possible. If this is indeed a dietary issue, addressing it sooner than later will decrease the possibility of it becoming a habitual behavior.

Hoping the best for your eclectus!

Marvy is 15 and does this every year at this time.... usually starts around Christmas time.... he's also a lot more.... amorous...lol... I've chalked it up to a seasonal thing, like cats and dogs shedding.
