Female Eclectus-"Roxy"
I have written on this before, but I figured I would try again and see if anyone had anything new to add.

I know lots of people have problems with their birds screaming, and the way to stop it is to leave the room when the screaming starts and come back only when it stops. Well, what do I do if Roxy screams when I'm not in the room? I definitely always ignore it and never go running in or anything, but she still does it. And it's not a constant screaming, it's more of a REALLY loud call. It scares the crap out of everyone! She make one call, and then waits a few minutes and then makes it again. She only does it when I'm in another room or not home at all. If someone else is sitting in the same room as her, she still does it. I know she is probably looking for me, and of course I am happy to know that she loves me :) but everyone else in the household is complaining to me that her calls are so annoying and loud. Is there anything I can do?

I don't know if it will help or not, but my birds call to me in the morning when I'm getting ready for work. I'll answer them and say "I'm here boys" and then they call to each other for a few minutes and then it's done. I don't go into the room where they are, but I will answer them and then they know where I am, and that seems to satisfy them.

Chloe my cockatoo did that when i first got her. After to weeks of wearing ear plugs i started calling out "Chloe is all white" about 3 days of that and the screaming stopped. If she wants to know i am in the house she has one call she does for me and i answer back then she is quiet. Some times it works for my hubby if not he goes to her and tells her shhh u are ok and she understands i am not around to answer her.

Puck seems to like it when I answer him back, and it helps sometimes, although I haven't totally stopped his calling. Good luck!

They do have this scream that can break crystal don't they. Fortunately mine will only do it a couple of times a day. It's usually if she see's activity outside or an animal passing by his window. I have a squirt bottle so when my two birds get a little too roudy, I give them a little squirt and tell them to calm down. They both hate being misted with water.

Roxy is a matured hen & has probably got breeding on her mind. The high pitch call is what my hens do when they are in breeding mode & want the males to feed them or are ready to mate. As she has no male she is calling on anyone in her human flock to take on that role.

I would also think that the chewing on your sleeve also has something to do with it as well.

At this time be careful not to pet her in anyway that will stimulate her. It's also a good idea to cut back on her food as well just keep her on a maintenance diet.

By the way squirting her with water isn't going to help either altho if she enjoys a shower or a sprinkle under the hose it helps give her something else to do by preening & drying off.

Mine know what the squirt bottle does too, and all I have to do is put it on the counter within their sight, and I have birds all using their "indoor voices"

What do you think the chewing on the sleeve could mean as far as hormones go? The calling has been going on since I got her in February, so I don't think it's a seasonal thing.

What time do you guys uncover your birds in the morning? What do you do if you want to sleep late? If I uncover Roxy at like 8am, and I go back to sleep until 10, she will not let me sleep and will scream until i get up.

Mine have always been screamers especially when they can hear me in another room. Usually a few minutes of screaming back and forth between me and them used to work but when it became non-stop i started giving them a treat that would take themma minute or two to finish before i left the room each time. This way their mouths were full. I also use a mister bottle that they are well aware means shoosh! Hope it gets better!
