Hi! I don't think I've been on here for probably about a year and even back then I didn't really post much, but I recently adopted a 6 month old blue fronted Amazon and just wanted to share his adorable face with y'all! :D

He's a rehome and I'm not sure about the details on why his former owner had to rehome him, but I'm glad he's here now at least!
I named him after Daenerys' dragon Drogon from Game of Thrones since Dany's Drogon is the largest and most dangerous one of her dragons, and... My Drogon is the largest one of my "dragons" :03: ..And for anyone who's watched Game of Thrones or read A Song of Ice and Fire - you just know that Drogon is an appropriate name for a male Amazon, haha! :silly: :18: Little scallywags.. :03:

He's very cute. Definitely a handful but for sure an adorable one. He's starting to talk a little (just today he surprised me with a very clear "Hello" and when he thinks I'm not listening I catch him mumbling and practicing new sounds before breakfast every morning), he loves his evening cuddles, he LOOVES to wrestle his toys and he's really animated and funny.
He's a little nippy though, especially when excited, but having spent years training an older rehomed attack bird (Senegal) to even be able to be in the same room as me without attacking my face/eyes, it's nothing I can't handle with some treats and toys and distraction until he associates sitting on my hands with fun and yum instead of just a weird fleshy surface that needs to be chewed on.

But enough with the words already - let's admire his cute face!

He’s beautiful, and it sounds like he’s landed in a great place with you!

Congratulations and Welcome to the Wonderful World of Amazons! The place that Amazon's Rule!

He has some nice sized claws there, something to grow into maybe? :D

Although he is young, its is never to early to begin Learning Amazon Body Language! So, visit the Amazon Forum and read the First Thread to you BFA! He will enjoy you reading to him, as Amazons Love to be read too! And, you will begin to better understand Amazon Body Language. You are likely another six months before you begin seeing him use the hardwired side of the Language.

The 'I Love Amazons - ... Thread is Huge and contains tons of information on Living and Loving Amazons! Enjoy the reading.

Again Welcome! Always remember: Amazon's Rule!

And I'm not that new to the Amazon body language actually! While I've never actually owned an Amazon before, I've been around them a lot and I worked with a couple of blue fronts during the years I was studying animal care and a bit of ethology. I'm also a gigantic nerd - during the 7 years I've been a parrot owner I've not only gone to school specifically to learn more about animals because I wanted to work with parrots, I've also done what any part of the Internet Generation would do in my position - spent years and years researching everything and anything there is to know about birds. I've wanted a blue front since I was 15, so, a bunch specifically about Amazons too. :18: :60: Though, being the nerd I am, I of course will continue reading anything I can get my hands on, that's partly why I returned to this forum after having been inactive for about a year. I felt like broadening my Bird Forum/Community choices to get the most information out of these first few weeks with him that I can! :D

Anyway - reading forum posts to him is a really good piece of advice! I've tried reading actual books to him but that's proven to be kind of hard while he isn't caged - unless I like my books heavily chewed on. :18:
Here's a picture of Drogon and one of my friends when I had my two best friends over to check out my new non-fiction book collection and meet Drogon. Not the best two acticities combined, as it turned out. My friend looks horrified at the fact that my brand new book is being demolished! :18: (Posted with permission from said friend of course)

What a handsome little guy! Very curious and naughty too by the looks of it (and they don't grow out of that as they get older either).

Are you sure he's only 6 months?

Thanks! He is a little rascal, yeah! :D

It seems he is indeed! All his papers says he hatched May 20th this year, and this is a picture of him that his former owner took in, according to Facebook, late August, showing his dark eyes and babyface:

..So I don’t see why not!

Yup he's young and good looking .

I'm with Kiwi's mom on his size /age! And, with the hatch date you provided, that clearly defines the age!!! He's a Big Boy!

Note the amount of yellow on those Wings, with the flaming red at the caps, plus those huge claws! That implies that he is very likely one of the Big Boys (Girls) from the Southern Range of Blue-Fronted, Amazona!

What is his weight! (grams). I'm guessing he is well into the 450 grams range.

It will be interesting to see if his head feathers stay the current coloration or if he pushes more white on top of this head.

It's why I love Amazons! There are just so many wonderful flavors!!! :D

Clearly not from Northern Blue-Fronted Amazon Range!

Oh, interesting! I didn't think any of it before but now that you mention it, I do think he's larger than most of the bluefronts I've met before.
Here's one of my Sennies, Alaska (RIP), next to another Blue Front a couple of years ago:

...And since Alaska isn't with us anymore (..and besides, Drogon doesn't interact with the little birds yet) here's Drogon on my hand VS Alaska on my hand, with the hand for comparison:

And another one for good measure:

He sure seems like a giant when compared like this at least! :p :D

And he is indeed a southern Blue Front! His papers say he's an Amazona Aestiva Xanthopteryx :)
I don't have his weight data right now but I'll bring out the kitchen scale tomorrow and let you know!

Beautiful example and a real cutie. Not too soon to start teaching him stuff. They love to learn, especially for treats and praise.

What a squish!

It'll be fun to see how he grows into his plumage as he gets a bit older.
Welcome back to the forums, too :)

Oh we almost named our macaw Drogon, but decided it might be too close to Dragonfly, which is the parakeet's name. However he still screeches when we say "Dracarys!" He actually picked that up from watching clips of the show.

Mycket vacker!
