A while back I posted a couple threads about my experiences with macaws at a store/shelter I volunteered at. It's been quite a while since then cause I am student teaching and almost done with college. (will be officially done at end of June :D) Then tis the hard part of finding a job during the summer :p But during my job hunt I'll be able to go back and help out at the bird store and can tell more stories if anyone is interested lol.

I have one quick expereince that happened just last Friday with Priella :blue: For those who didn't read my past threads about the "3 Hyacinths", Priella is the nice one ;) My reason for going to the store was to drop off my Roxy cause I wouldn't be able to watch her properly while I was home that weekend. Even though this store does board parrots, she went home with her breeder mom (who now owns the store as of last week :D ) I'm getting sidetracked...so anyways while I was at the store dropping her off, I had to go visit all of the birds that live there of course, Mac (blue & gold) and Max (green wing) both offered to regurgitate for me (how pleasant :p ) Azul :blue: totally ignored me, didn't try to be a punk or meanie :11: When I went by Priella playing on the outside of her cage, she seemed preoccupied so I turned around (but didn't walk away from the cage) Here is my advice to everyone! Don't turn your back on a parrot, especially a macaw cause the next thing I knew she was within inches of getting on me...I turned around and did let her step up, and she was really nice for about a minute. I have heard different stories of parrots being able to read our body's emotions better than other animals (like when we're afraid) and I think Priella could tell I was really upset. ....see the reason I was going home is because my grandpa is on his deathbed pretty much. He has Alzheimer's disease and was diagnosed a few years ago. Priella let me hold her really close and even give her a quick peck on her head....but with her being a macaw and all that didn't last long :p She wanted to get on my shoulder to be tall and cocky. So I automatically put her back on her cage (with assistance from the new store owner telling her to behave lol)

Sorry this is a very long read for a something that happened in just a few minutes. I understand if you dont want to read it all :p

sorry about your grandfather :(

bit like ok you had your 5mins my turn with priella lol

A nice story exept for your grandfather....A perrot is a perrot, I have the cutes Zon, until now havent bite, but I dont trust him 100%

I am so sorry to hear about your grandfather. :(

I had a similiar experiance with a Green Wing when I worked at the Rainforest Cafe, Orlando. It was my last weekend there, I was shipping off to the Navy. This bird was the 'devil bird' He liked to intimidate everyone, it really took some time to get to know him enough to handle him well. Anyways that last weekend he spent trying to curl up in my arms, regergitate, and just be held by me as much as he could. It was a very sweet goodbye :(

Sorry about your grandfather.
When I'm cleaning cages I have to watch my guys because as soon as you squeeze between the cages, your butt is theirs (literally). They only give play nips, but it will scare the stuffing out of you if you're not expecting it!!!
