4 Cockatiels 2 males Chicken Little & Charlie, 2 Females Chiquita and Sweet pea. Yellow Sided Green Cheek Conure -Franklin and our now tame, rescued feral Pigeon - Belle.
I've really noticed lately that our Franklin does not whistle at all. He occasionally squawks and chatters and is learning to talk quite well, saying Hello, Good Boy, Him a good boy? Oh and he LOVES to say Chicken Little! And he whispers "pretty pretty bird" every night.

But I realized, he does not whistle or chirp at all.

Our male tiels wolf whistle and I taught them to whistle "If you're happy and you know it clap your hands" and a few times...it's sooo fricking hillarious too....I heard Franklin do HIS attempt of "if you're happy and you know it" but he does not whistle it, not even close, it's a squawk sound...he does a very good job, you totally know what he's "singing" but it's not whistling.

I ask this also, because he's in a room with one of our tiels, who talks up a storm, that's how Franklin is learning so much vocabulary...by hearing Charlie all day long. But Charlie whistles too, a lot...a it's funny that Franklin hasn't picked it up.

Franklin is 10 months old and I was just wondering if this is normal for conures. Does your conure whistle or make chirp noises?

Guava talks, makes kissing noises, and even oinks....but no whistling here, either.

Well, I don't have a GCC, but my Nanday doesn't whistle. However, I never taught her to. I don't whistle well myself due to losing a tooth after being kicked by a horse. She does have quite a few chirps though.

Ooouch!! :(

My crimson bellied conure does whistle a little bit, but not nearly to the extent of my old cockatiel.

I whistle to Loqui all the time. Sometimes when I leave the room & he starts contact calling for me & I ignore him, he then pauses & start whistling for me. it's the cutest thing. I'd LOVE for him to whistle all the time for me instead of contact calling. I try to encourage it as much as possible.

Merlin though is quite the whistler. I think she gets a bit upset that I'm not good at whistling back for her. She loves for me to imitate her sounds. She will do a whistle, I do a crummy imitation back and she will keep repeating it like she's trying to teach me.
