Hatch Day- 7/16/15
Dobby is my 8 month old IRN female. She steps up just fine and loves to sit on everyones shoulder to preen their hair and clothes and for your to talk to her.... but she does not want to be touched. She will give you the warning growl or snap if you try to touch her head. (although she watches me snuggle and scritch Gollum and seems so envious).
Well... this morning she let me give her scritches on her head! She was making the sweetest noises when I was doing it. PROGRESS! ( and I have had her since she was a little over two months old! It only took... 6 months!!! LOL)

Good to see you again! Where have you been hiding? :D

Hey, any progress is progress, no? :) Got any new pics for us to drool over?

Just remember, not all fids like equal amounts of physical contact. Some tolerate more than others. Some like it some days, while others rather not be 'scritched' today.

You had to have been smiling HUGE though when Dobby let you do it.

That's brilliant! I don't know that Henry will ever adjust to scritches...well done!

Welcome back newbsi! I'm really glad to hear this progress. Wendy is awesome right, not all the birds will like to be touched. I could possibly do about three seconds of a head scratching out of Parker if I do in a particular way, but that's it. Any longer and I'll put back a tub. If I try to approach it any other way I will pull back a stub.

Yes, like my human kids, these two fids could not have more different personalities. Gollum would crawl inside me if she could. If I want to stop giving scritches, I have to sit on my hands so she cannot see them because she will start pecking at them lol. Dobby just wants to be on me. Although she is not afraid of my head, I can kiss her on the beak... it is like she does not associate my hands and feet with being a part of my head and face (her nickname is toe biter and bat bird (because she hangs upside down by her feet when she is in her cage... hilarious bat bird)
I will take pictures today and I will have to remember how to upload them, its been a while.
I had mentioned in someone elses post about wanting to rescue a Macaw or AG. I had applied at my local rescue and they do not allow people without large bird exp to adopt large birds. Doublete mentioned a rescue in NJ and I filled out an app yesterday, heard back from them last night. It is 3.5 hours away and they require 3 or 4 trips before taking a bird home. My first reaction was forget that! Then I thought about it. What is 18-24 hours total drive time for a companion we will have for the rest of our lives. They require disease testing on my birds before I can even visit (which is AMAZING! I LOVE that! They should ALL do that!) I ordered the kits from Biotech because I cannot remember what I did with them lol. Now I will be forced to make them bleed... I cannot back out. (I can finally find out what Gollum really is, my money is on female). The more videos I watch and information I read, the more I am leaning towards a AG or... ekkie. As beautiful as the macaws are, they are just SO BIG. Although I have the room and space... they are just SO BIG. I am really excited about this rescue thing! I do not want to get another baby when there are so many birds in need of homes (besides 2 fids AND 2 kids all going through puberty at the same time... :O

LOVE your new signature!!! :D

And best of luck in the search of your 'bigger' bird! :) Keep us posted, ok?

LMAO! Did you superimpose them like this, or were they actually sitting on you like this, TOTALLY pretending not to know each other? :D

They were like this. I played with a photoshop app and blurred and played with the color but they were just like this lol! Today is the first day they have ever been on my shoulders at the same time (you know, without someone going after the other and chasing her away... I will not mention names as to who would instigate such things! I Got a couple pictures in before Dobby started chewing on my shirt buttons. It is a great picture of them!
Here are a couple more
