It's going to be my first Winter with my birds, so I was wondering.....
It's getting darker and darker in the morning before I go to work. In fact, my DYHA is relactant to say "Good morning pretty!" when I go downstairs..... Of course it could be because she doesn't find me pretty anymore, but I think it's because it is dark still..... :)
One day I left really early, so I was able to give them breakfast without waking them up and tippitoed out of the house....I felt guilty for the rest of my day that day.
So, what do you guys do, the ones that have to go to work early in the morning.....???????

I usually feed, interact a little, and go to work. It doesn't matter if it's light or dark outside, I have at least two birds now that demand attention if they see me! So it wouldn't make a difference about time anyway! But then again, once the time switches, it's not a big issue.... they just get fed an hour earlier or later than normal and adjust to the difference.

We wake our birds up at 7 Am on weekdays and sleep in on weekends, they look a little sleepy when we get them up, but we get them out, interact, feed them and clean the cages before we go to work. They are happy, I would hate not seeing them.

ha ha, nope they wake me up, usually before 7 am

My partner wakes them to feed in the morning but I don't have to work til later so they're all awake when I'm getting ready for work. :)

I wake Pippi up early, usually while it's still dark, on weekdays, and although she's usually a little groggy looking at first, she quickly warms up and wants attention. I feed her, clean the cage, and play a little every day before school. She would go crazy if I didn't let her out before school. :)

Nope, my partner and I leave the house at 6. I try to leave it as dark as possible for the birds.

I get home between 4 and 5 and they all get let out until bedtime, 8 for the linnies, 9 for the sennie.

I wake my birds up when I get up. :) This is around 8am. They have the same sleeping habits as me! Even sleep in on weekends for an hour haha!

How do your guys birds sleep in so long?!?!? :S

Fargo is up at 5am, even in winter..

Gosh i sometimes even hear him playing at 4am! :p

He goes to bed between 6-7pm.. So i guess you guys keep your birds up later ? :)

So no, Fargo is always up first, i usually sleep in until about 9am, as soon as Fargo sees me roll over he flies over and shouts a lovely HELLO!!!!!

You guys are going to hate me😩 my baby U2 my avian vet said she needs 12 to 14 hours of sleep. Well when she got sick the vet said she needs sleep and warmth. So I put a bed in her room and stayed in there a couple of nights. I put her to bed at 9 and got her up at 11:00am. I have a teenager so I was a little worried about the bird getting sound sleep lol. Well long story short she really seems to like this schedule so she goes to bed at 9pm and gets up at 11:00am. I stay at home so I have her out all day.

I use to wake Crumbs up early every morning but he is so use to our routine he is usually awake before me and waiting for me :p

This is around 5:30am-6:30am. He usually goes to bed around 6:30pm-9pm. He takes naps during the day sometimes :p I try to let him sleep in on the weekends but hes awake at 5 in the morning while I want to sleep in to 9am. :p

I usually wake Captain Jack up after 6 am on work days and on my days off I wake him up and feed him etc a little after 8 am.

I try not to keep Captain Jack up late  I cover his cage up at night however sometimes he is up before I am.

Bundii goes to bed around 8-8.30pm each night and we usually wake her up around 6.30-6.45am. This is mon-fri and I try to let her sleep in a bit extra on the weekend. She is never up before us though. She sleeps in a happy hut and I also have to convince her that it is time to get up. She has been like this since the day we brought her home. She also has a sleep during the day usually just after lunch time.

We have the same routine every. day. No matter if it's the weekend. My toddler doesn't sleep past 7:30am these days, and as soon as Chili sees me he wants out. So then the breakfast routine starts asap.

You do what works best for you! I'm not of the belief that parrots need around 12 hours of sleep year round, and in fact, my birds may get 9 hrs or 14 hrs of sleep, give or take, depending upon the time of year.

Birds can adjust to different schedules, and they can take naps during the day. I recall one owner who slept during the day but was awake at night, due to their job. Therefore, the only time they could interact with their bird was at night! I definitely don't recommend that, but the bird wasn't having any behavioral issues because of it, either.

Other birds are just plain, downright grumpy if they don't get enough sleep! :D

We uncover cages, change food etc, and then leave them to go back to sleep if they wish. We don't pull them out before work (unless Merlin demands a cuddle) and will just get them out later.

Generally they'll give a call, then go back to sleep when we're gone :)
