Do you change the name when you rehome?

If we get to rehome our Timneh, she is three years old and her name is Gabby. It's a nice name but I'm not super thrilled with it and was wondering-do birds care three years in if you change their names? She is not a talker yet, a whistler and singer, I have no idea if that makes a difference.

All of mine I kept the names except for Sammy U2. His name was Hammy, I changed to Sammy. Sounds very close. I like Gabby but Sabby is cute.

I think it would be fine if you wanted to rename her.
They learn their new name pretty quickly : )

Never underestimate a bird, they are open to changes and adapt quickly.

No names yet, I will have to meet her and see what she seems like.
That's what we did with our last kiddo, we had a name picked by the time he was born-but were not certain until we left the hospital if we were decided.
We are into geeky stuff so she may get named after a favorite character. Zelda would be a cool bird name. Maybe one of the kids will come up with something perfect. But yup, we'll have to meet her to know. Maybe she suits Gabby so perfectly we won't change it...but I love naming things. All four of our kiddos we took the pregnancies to argue about the names and read lots of baby name websites. My husband was particularly good at coming up with ridiculous names...Matholomew was a favorite for him to tease me with.

Kazi was Kazaam when he came to the rescue, but I couldn't call him that because it just sounded awful to my ears. So I changed it to something that sounded similar enough and he picked up on it really fast. The director at the rescue never changes their names, and I understand why. I wouldn't have changed Kazi's if he didn't come from such a bad background. I wanted to give him a fresh start with no bad associations.

I 'changed' both of mine. Rome didn't handle the change as well so she just went from Romeo to Rome. Rocco's name was also Romeo when we got him so Tommy like Rocco (I let him name him, since he let me bring him home). Rome also gets called Princess and Rocco gets called Monstruo Verde (he earned that at the dinner table).

i changed oliver's name when i got him. he was called oscar by his fostering mom's kids. i didn't really like that name. when i got him home, i called him leonard for a while (after leonard cohen. he has that song about a bird.) my husband hated that name for him! we thought oliver was close enough to oscar. we mostly call him ollie now.

At 13, I didn't feel right about changing his name, I like Remington!
But yours is young enough, shouldnt be a problem~good luck!

Our new timneh is 20 yrs old, so we're not changing his name. He came with the name Budro. We're just going to change the spelling to Boudreaux. We already have a Buddy! So we'll call him Bu, BuBu or Boudreaux....full name when he's being naughty. LOL

We tried to change Sunny's name when we got her at 2 1/2. She would have none of it and corrected us saying "Sunny Sunny" if we called her something else. Then we DNA'd her and found out the he we thought we got was a she anyway. Luckly Sunny is a unisex name because she is still Sunny.

These are great names! I love Remington for a big bird, it's such a grand name!
I love seeing what people name their kids and pets. It really brings out the personalities in people and pets.

Sunny is lucky having a unisex name
Sure birds do not know the difference anyway, they never complain do they LoL
I had Mishka for 3 years, thinking she was a female.
Had a dna test done, she was a he......
Luckily the name Mishka is also unisex, was considering changing it to Mishko, but preferred the A to an O at the end of the name.
