My Blue Crowned conure, Roscoe, seems to purr when I pet him in the evenings. He pretty much demands to be up under my chin and then he makes a purring sound. I have noticed that he does this sometimes during the day when I am scritching him, but mostly he does this in the evenings during his one-on-one mommy time. Is this common? He sounds just like our cat. I have noticed that if the purring goes on for too long he gets a little over excited and I have to redirect him with doing something else--but he goes right back to wanting to be cuddled. Is this normal?

Mishka loves purring
At night after his training session, lowers his head, as and lets me rub his head, then begins to purr.
Often during the night, I hear him purring whilst dreaming (he sleeps in my room)
I guess it gives him comfort, and a feel of security.
So cute to hear

Thanks for the replies! Roscoe just was purring to when I was snuggling him and it is so cute. He seems to do it more when it starts to get dark or is dark. The breeder used to snuggle him in the evenings and I think he associates evening with his snuggle time. Nice to know that he is happy :) Although, I am sure that I would know it if he wasn't :)

My Basil is snuggled up under my chin right now. He doesn't always purr but I love when he does. I can hear his settling in for sleep sounds now so he might doze off (cozy inside my fleece). Poor birdie missed his mommy today.

My zons purr , but it's more of ," i'm happy " type of sound. My hen is on her perch in the dark, just purring away because daddy is home and sitting near her.(all is good)

Quaker parrots are known for purring when they're happy. Ralph always purrs when he's getting head-scratches or beak rubs. :)
