Do male & female GCC talk? I have a choice between male or female, so if one can learn to speak better than the other, maybe I would choose that one.

While both have the capability to talk, it is up to the individual bird as to whether it will learn to talk...and... there's no training method to insure either will talk.....

I have a female GCC who can say about six words in various combinations. GCC's are not strong talkers, but they are wonderful companion parrots!

Jasmine is a female GCC and is 15 months old. She says in context
Good morning
Good morning jasmine
Hello Shadow (our cat)
Sit Lizzie (our dog)
Pretty girl
What you doing?
Who's a pretty girl
Pretty Jasmine
Oopsie
See ya later

sometimes very clear, other times a bit mumbly. She's just wonderful!!

Peeko is unknown gender (we call him a boy), about seven months old. He says "baby", "beep (repeats sometimes)", and sometimes tries to say his name. He also makes kissing sounds when he kisses you, when you kiss him, when he sees people kissing, or sometimes just randomly. He's starting to imitate my computer chair squeaking as well, and can imitate a cockatiel (no idea where he picked that up, haha!) and a baby chicken perfectly. So, all in all, he only says one real word clearly, and tries to say his name. But he's still young and will probably pick up more words. I'm not sure how 'average' his speech is, since I've never been around another GCC enough to know how well the others talk/how many words they say.

AHHHHH! Jasmine and Peeko sound so wonderful!!!!! I am SOOOOO SAD cuz my husband vetoed me getting a conure anyway, we talked about it last night, he looked VERY stern when I mentioned getting a conure. Sometimes if I want something long enough he will give in :) When I looked at turtle breeders for two solid years, and bought a turtle painting for the living room, he took me to a turtle exhibit for my birthday a few years ago, then just walked up to me one day and said, "why don't you get a turtle" hahah (we now have two, of a miniature breed who live in our fish tank with our fish :)
I do have two Budgies, but once I obtained the 2nd one, my 1st Budgie wanted nothing to do with me, the new one soon followed suit. I was told not to get two Budgies for that reason, but I didn't listen. arg!
My husband suggested I get rid of 1 Budgie so the other will be more friendly, but I would never do that.

I do not want to sound negative but this is a fact

There is no guarantee that any bird will talk, no matter what species.

Many guardians have been hugely disappointed, having spent many hours trying to teach their birds to talk without any success.

Purchasing a talking bird also has absolutely no guarantee.

Antoinette, if you read what i wrote I hope it doesn't sound like I'm saying , "hey I want a talking bird" I even said MAYBE if a gender would talk I would pick that one. I'm quite sure I'd pick the one the breeder said was sweetest.
I even packed up 3 buckets worth of fish that I've had for years and brought them across the country WITH me when I moved and they don't talk either :)
My pets stay with me until they die of old age! lol

there is no way to know I have one who talks up a storm an even copies your head movement and the other is not picking it up as well . for the most part I would say talking are not they will make you laugh an you will enjoy their company also they might not talk to you for a year are more then just start up funny birds I love them

Thanks tweety, they do sound so fun! I'm in love with the two at the local pet store, though I would get one from a breeder, if my husband ever changes his mind.

Tweety: SO COOL, I hear bad things about some stores, but the one around here keeps them on a shoulder or on a play perch near the cash register so that they can be well socialized, which is really nice! I got to shop around with him on my shoulder too, hahah. such a sweetheart. he was $600.00 at the store, but with all that socialization I know he will be such a wonderful companion for someone!

that's kind of how the shop here is they take them out spend time with them an hand raise some they know each birds personality . I have been some an they don't even play with them

The way your message came across it could be taken either way.

I never insinuated that you wanted a talking bird.

What I stated was
There is no guarantee that any bird will talk, no matter what species.

I am so happy your pets will stay with you until they die of old age, wish all guardians of all animals felt that way :)
