Do macaws moult this time of year?

GW Macaw, CAG, eclectus (Kiwi- RIP)
Our GW has been loosing quite a bit of feathers in the past few days. 4 or 6 a day and it has me concerned.
It doesn’t seem like they were plucked out - they aren’t chewed up or anything and they’re pretty much intact. I noticed a couple of pin feathers forming under some of her wing feathers –*so maybe she is starting to moult?
I thought moults happened during the winter months...or does it vary from bird to bird or from one region to another?

My GW molts all year long. She loses a bunch and once they are replaced she drops a bunch of different feathers. It is a neverending process for her, she really doesn't get a break. I would say it takes about a year for all her feathers to be replaced, so it is a slow process. She doesn't have a super hard molt where she loses tons at one time like many other macaws.

From people I have spoken with it seems as if some have hard molts and some are slow but steady, like my girl. Hope this helps a bit.

That’s somewhat reassuring...Only had our GW for a month now so I don’t really know what to expect –*I guess my constant fear is having a feather plucker, like the eclectus we used to have. But then again, our CAG basically moults all year long as well...
