Do IRNs fly more around their cage as they get older?

My IRN is only 3 months old but at the moment he thinks he is Spider-Man
and climbs in all manner of directions whenever he needs to get anywhere.
The only time he really flies is when he falls or during other sitations when he
is panicked.

I find his climbing antics to be pretty hilarious at times but I'm still curious about
whether this will always be his main way to get around inside his cage.

The breeder likely clipped his wings before he could fully fledged or kept in him cage too smaller for flying which are cruel and damaging practices that are widely accepted in the industry because most parrot people don't know to demand differently from their breeders :( he is likely a very poor flier and will mostly climb.

Like silversage said it's probably because his wings were clipped too early in his life... So he's not confident about his flying skills.
Let's not lose hope... Try Target training that'll involve him jumping to start with... Then flying... You never know he might take to flying full time (that's the eternal optimist in me...)

This is pretty disappointing to hear, wing clipping had crossed my mind but
definitely not before his flight skills had developed.

He also seems to get his nails caught on his bars and toys occasionally, which is one
of the times he's likely to get panicked.

I haven't taken him out of his cage yet (I've had him for 10 days) because I'm trying
to clicker train him first so he trusts me more and I haven't parrot proofed my room yet.
Do you think his nails need cutting? If that's the case I'm not really sure what to do as
I haven't even held him yet.

Edit: He just got spooked when I was lifting my dumbells near him and started to fly around a ton,
he seemed pretty accurate with his landings.

concrete perch near his food bowls. they'll file the nails down naturally and he'll wipe his beak on it keep it clean and removing the older flaky bits. Good to see you're moving slow and have a cage big enough for flight

Thanks I don't know how I could have managed to file them myself. The cage is fairly big, at least in my opinion however he only uses 1/3rd of it 90% of the time. The only time he goes down to the bottom is either when he's panicked or going to get food and drink.

I want to commend you on how much time you spend on these forums, reading up and asking questions - if only other new owners were as diligent! Hope that doesn't read to condescending.

What have you called your baby? Would love to see his antics if you can capture it? :)

I haven't named him yet, picking a name for him is quite stressful because I know he'll
be stuck with it for 25+ years.

If I post a picture of him would you be able to tell me if his wings have been clipped or
not?

Dani. Silversage is the one for that one I should think?

Why not give it a go, nothing to lose!

Yup, I reckon I could. Dani would be able to as well. We can always try!
