Sun Conure, Jenday Conure (red factor?)
Hi, I got picaso yesterday from his owners who couldnt keep him because they moved, They told me he was a red factor sun conure but I think he is a jenday conure. In the picture it looks more of a dark orange but in person his belly is a dark red, under his wings is a nice red and on his 2 shoulders/where the wings bone bends kinda area. His head is alot darker then my regular sun conure Ive had for a year. Is he a red factor?

I’m not well versed in sun or jendayas but I would say that looks like it’s probably a red factor. Especially with the comparison of the two.

Has the bird gone thru its first molt?

Pre first molt my guy Phoenix looked like a Jenday. But that first molt changed all that. The solid green wings started changing over to adult coloration.
Here he is at 14weeks old, see the solid green wings.

And after the first molt, you can see the green being replaced with yellow

And after second molt nearly all yellow now

So in my opinion it's either a Jenday or a very young sunny.
To me it does look like a red factor.

What a gorgeous birdie!

The bird is 100% a jenday, not a sun.

I think it’s a regular sun conure. Sun conures are mostly green as babies to blend in with the trees. If it was red factor its head would be mostly red/red orange. These are my sun conures. They are red factor.

As a baby my boy sun conure looked like this. They look a lot like jendays as babies.

This is definitely a jenday not a sun. The wings are solid green and doesn't have green anywhere else on the body like up the neck like a baby sun would have. He also has a red back like a jenday conure which sun conures do not have.

There's always a sunday conure option... just a suggestion to consider

it's possible but i dont think that's the case as most sunday babies lean towards looking like a sun conure with more yellow on their wings. This guy shows every sign and indicator of being a jenday and has none of the additional characteristics a sun has.

I was looking at the other pictures of the sun that molted. The other baby could be a red factor sun conure. I guess we will find out when it molts.
