Well, it's been 7 weeks since I brought my precious sweet little bundle of down feathers home. I've always ASSUMED that Maui was a baby boy, however, with the help of OUR great friend and forum member Bobby, I was able to have Maui officially sexed. Bob came over and so graciously clipped all of mine and my Mom's birds nails for me to include Maui, he clipped Maui just BARELY enough to get a few drops of blood (Maui didn't even make a peep, no fuss at ALL) to send to Avian Biotech, here in Tallahassee, FL.
I received the results of Maui's test on yesterday via email and..................

IT'S A BOYYYYYYY!!!

So, we have guessed his sex properly, YAYYYYYY!!!!!! Besides my 5 year old German Shepherd Logan, this will be the only boy I have, as all 3 of my children are all GIRLS!!!

Congratulations!

You know...despite most parrots not being sexually dimorphic, sometimes you can just tell!!

Bobby is a great guy for helping.

Yeah, well it alllll started when I went to see this cute little chick about an hour and a half away, there were actually 2. I asked the breeder if she thought Maui was a boy or a girl and SHE said, it's really hard to say BUT, I think it's a boy and explained that from the Mom and Dad birds, if they had GIRLS their heads were more "rounded" at the top and the boys appeared to have a more "flattened" type top of the head, then she explained that he was a tad bigger, the area around his eyes seem like the white was going to come to a point facing toward the back of his body and that the girls USUALLY have a more round white area around their eyes than the point. But, she said, you can never really tell, I may be wrong. But, his personality (to me) seemed more "boyish?" than "girlish"? He LOVES to spar with objects and such, so we've alway thought BOY. We could have been very wrong though, only one true way to tell! :)

I can just about guarantee success in sexing any bird, I'll guess the sex, and 99.9% of the time it will be just the opposite, so there ya go, as for being a great guy for helping?...nah, I just do it so I can hang out with people that are just as crazy about our fids as I am :09:

Congrats on knowing that Maui is a Boy....

That is one reason I got an Eclectus as I wanted a female and no dna sexing required...

Congrat's Lisa, great news
I read the breeder's explanation, Boy or Girl
Mishka has not been dna, guess if I found out she was a boy I would call her Mishko

Always good to have another boy in the house. Now he should meet Mishka and Rosie.

Ya know, it doesn't really matter much, to me either since I don't intend on breeding him, he's just my baby, my best friend!! But, I just was curious, so I did it.:)

AWW!! Maui would LOVE to meet Mishka and Rosie, he's very friendly and sweet to all of my Mom's birds except the budgies, for some reason those little guys freak him out and he doesn't much care for them, otherwise, he loves all the rest!
