Disinfecting Sisal Boing

I throw them in the dishwasher.
 
I agree. If there is nothing special about some infection you are worried about but just don't want it to get rancid, then (1) mechanically remove the debris and rinse out everything; and (2) let it dry out completely. Normal common germs don't like being dry. In particular, coliform bacteria are non spore forming. That's why the toilet seat is the cleanest thing in the house according to swab-and-culture testing: the material doesn't absorb water and drys out in seconds.

It's a boing that I used for a previous bird. The bird wasn't ill when we had it, but the boing's been stored away for quite a while. So, I am trying to find out if there is a way to disinfect it so that I can use it again.
