Everytime I go to Sunnyside to get flower and plant related items, I see their 'Famous' Blue and Gold Macaw named Sunny. This bird, the most talkative funniest bird, lives in the poorest conidtions ever.
I had never really noticed her living conditions until a few weeks ago when I went over to her to say Hi. I picked her up and stroked her, and she seems friendly enough, but I am apauled by how she is living. Her ROUND cage, is smaller than my Conures, FILTHY, with feces covered wood shreddings at the bottom, and a couple sandpaper perches and a toy. I asked the clerk what they fed her, and he said: "Bird seed and peanuts. Sometimes we'll give her an apple slice or two." :11: I was just shocked. Mostly, because they have a Pet area in the store, and because it's HIGHLY likely that they have never done any research on the breed. This store is starting to disgust me. My ten year old neighbour could take care of a bird better than that.
Once I got home, I wrote them a letter that included over 10 pages of Macaw info and how to take care of the parrots. I got a letter back saying: Thank you for your consideration. -Sunnyside.
I went back the other day and noting has changed exept for there was some veggies and clean water. I plan on going back in the next few days and talking to the manager and such if the bird hasn't been properly cared for.
