So, guess who didn't close the feeder tray properly before going to work yesterday? And guess what happened when someone else decided to explore? I feel like I've learned an important lesson...

Kl; is all that's left of home row...

I know I shouldn't have laughed..... :(

She didn't actually eat any of it, I hope? Is she ok?

Whoops. I hope she did not eat any of it. :(

I guess the temptation was just too much.

Ohhhh my gosh!

I am so glad i am not the only one :p I left him for 1 minute...

Were you able to pop the keys back in? On a laptop it is super hard to put the keys back in? :(

Will you have to sent it away to be fixed?

Thank god on a keyboard they all go back in fine, except the ones he destroyed... So now i just have some letters and numbers, where other letters and numbers should be.. Bit confusing

This was a few months ago, he doesn't mess with the keyboard anymore!

I wonder what it so fascinating about a keyboard though?

They just clip on like a "normal" keyboard but it looks like he's mangled some of the underneath "bits". Might need a new keyboard, it's not hard to change it over, but might cost a bit, being Sony and all. Might be time for a new computer.... Could always use an external keyboard, I suppose.

It's a lesson for me to watch my girl carefully. I have some good (and expensive) keyboards that she positively definitely must not eat!!

Oh wow, that is a pretty good lesson. I think I woulod be telling both of them, no toys until the damage is paid off.

O no! Well, at least you can get an external keyboard and still use the computer. My parents cockatoo did that to my computer once when I was in high school. My mom couldn't find him and my room was the last place she checked (he didn't normally go in there). Sure enough, he was in there, tearing up my keyboard and looking rather smug with himself. I think a lot of keyboards have been lost to curious beaks. Wonder whats so fascinating about them?

Thanks Tab and Kiwi, glad I'm not the only one!

I've done a partial salvage job but she managed to destroy the mountings of a dozen of them so it's not hugely usable as it is: I'm writing this using the onscreen keyboard to fill in the 'g's and 'w's, and the e key keeps coming off as I type! I think I'm going to replace it with a tablet which is substantially less destroyable... she had a good go at the tv remote as well but fortunately that was the extent of it.

I carefully counted out all the little parts to make sure everything was accounted for, so fortunately nothing was ingested and she's fine today, so I think we got away with it. When I got in she was looking really stressed - she's not a huge fan of being away from the cage without me to keep watch for her - so I ended up comforting her rather than telling her off - and it was entirely my fault anyway that she was able to get out.

Well, that took a while to type!

Oh no! She was quite busy while you were out:(
Thank goodness she didn't ingest any:)

*snicker* sorry- I'm laughing WITH you, really!!! HAHAHAHA :D

My old laptop is missing a few keys from Jackie, but I use the iPad these days- no keys to be eaten ;)

IMO they are jealous of the keyboard because we spend so much time with it. It gets the attention they deserve. Same with my cell phone.

ooh, I wouldn't want beak near the screen, that could be nasty.

How old is the laptop? If a replacement keyboard is big dollars, you might be able to salvage one from a dead laptop. People are always breaking screens, lots of broken laptops with all the "innards".

Hahnzels always pleased with himself when he can change the screen I'm on.

Yeah, it occurred to me to try to find a broken version of the laptop, then transfer the keys.

I think she'd be ok with a tablet - she's fine with my phone, she occasionally nuzzles it if she finds unattended but there's nothing she can really get purchase on. But I'll not be taking chances with anything expensive in future!

Don't you wish you had video of her actually doing it?

Like, which letter did she start with? Which was her favorite? Did she do the numbers first? Did she go in alphabetical order? Was she tap-dancing on the key board, like she was in some old time Buzzby Berkley musical?

Funny, sad, scary and heartbreaking all at the same time. It would have made for a great short film! :30:

then transfer the keys.
A computer recycler or Sony repair agent might have a secondhand keyboard. It may not be that expensive for a new one (if available) I'm just assuming that Sony would be expensive because their laptops are.

No, she'd have been "doing" Michael Jackson singing ABC :D

Guys, if any music was involved, it would have been the theme tune to Jaws: unsuspecting laptop basking on the sofa, a sinister pink shadow reflected in the screen, then... crunch!

I've had a look round at what Sony keyboards are available and there's nothing that's quite compatible - I'll try a couple of repairers just in case but I'm thinking cheap usb keyboard for now, then buy a tablet and keep it out of harm's way when I can afford it. Oh, and double checking the locks on the food bowl hatches before I leave the house would be a sensible precaution...
