I just finally recieved my 48 year old Yellow Naped Amazon from the rescue and he is super dusty. I scratch anywhere and I can see dander come off of him. I plan to give him a shower tonight with just water. Is there anything I can do to get him extra clean? I would like to avoid any products.

With birds you only want to use water(don't use fancy bird baths), you can also use the product Rain, it is water and aloe. Birds do a great job of keeping themselves clean.

There's nothing unusual about being able to see the dust from your zon. They're not as bad as a Too or tiels but they do have a "dust". Sometimes it seems worse than others but i'm not sure why. I would say about 90% of the zons i know love baths and would take one everyday if you offered. But some don't , I haven't noticed that those birds seem dirty to me. yeah they get "baths" when i clean cages or their mate is getting a bath, but it's not always a regular bath. I'm not sure seeing the dust means he is dirty. Does he "smell"?

Just stay away from the jerry curl or the soul glow... ;)

On a serious note, there is an oil gland at the base of their tails that waterproof their feathers.
