Difference in personality of red lore and Mexican red headed amazon

I was wondering what the difference was of these two birds. I know someone
That has both as babies. Are either supposed to be more gentle or easy going?
If I was to get two Amazons, is if better to have two males. Would a make and female bond so tightly they would become aggressive toward me ? I already have a DYH male baby 11 weeks old. He’s very gentle and sweet. I wanted to get him a friend , another baby. Maybe that’s a bad idea ? I just don’t know?

When it comes to birds , the only reason to get another, is that YOU want another bird. Buying a bird for your bird IS a bad idea. It rarely ever works out and will just be more work for you. Even if you know the sex there's no way to know if they'll ever get along, male or female. To your Amazon type questions I can't help as I've never had an Amazon. Good luck with your decision on a new addition.

If you in fact have an 11 week old DYH Amazon, IMHO, I would not be adding an additional parrot. You need to be developing your relationship with your baby to assure a reasonable passage to and beyond the joys of hormonal transition (puberty).

It is very easy to become in love with babies, but the reality is, they grow-up. Even if they get along now as babies there is no assurance that it will continue.

Slow-down, you have a baby 'big' Amazon that will easily be 500+ grams and just as large of personality.

As far as the difference between the two species I have had both.
Keep in mind every bird is an individual.
Red Lord Amazons have a tendency to switch from loving and wanting scratches to wanting to bite you. I was owned by a RLA from 1989 to 2016. I am also familiar with a RLA in the local pet shop. He/she behaves the same way.

I have two Mexican red headed Amazons. They are very playful and very loud. They don’t seem to have the same lightning fast mood swings that my RLA had. The 2 I have come from completely different backgrounds and mostly get along but I am not ready for them to be in the same cage yet.

I mostly agree with what has already been posted above.

Buying a bird for another bird is usually bad Idea. That being said I have done it a few times including the 2 Mexican red headed Amazons. I have learned to read amazon body language over 35 years and after getting Luna the first MRHA I was certain she wanted company. That’s NO guarantee that the bird I picked for her will be the right bird.

Also a double yellow headed amazon is a larger bird than a MRHA (generally).
It’s best to concentrate on your new bird for now.
