I was reading on a sticky/link that conures can eat 'soaked' pigeon food.Is that the pelleted pigeon food,or the grain type....or can they eat both?

Seeing as I have homing pigeons here too, they are on the grain type and pellets right now,i wonder if my jenday would like to try it??? (wich one is safe to feed ? )

Can someone please enlighten me?

I would not feed dove pellets to a conure. Doves are a domesticated species that lays eggs all year round so they need much more calcium than parrots. You can cause hypercalcemia by feeding too much calcium, and you can cause fatty liver from the excess vitamin D3 that is included in the doves food so they can absorb the calcium.

I've never heard of giving them pigeon food, but one of the wildlife rehabbers that I work with also has parrots, so I'm going to ask her about that. I'm curious. :green1:

It was found via *peta*'s ''species info sticky that ''it'' was suggested for a part of the jendaya conure's diet, via the conure diet section........copy paste from the site.........

Diet: seed mix of sunflower, safflower, hemp, wheat, oats, canary grass seed and various millets; also sprouted in summer; soaked pigeon food; fruit and vegetables (apple, mango, cucumber, half-ripened maize, carrot, rose-hips, rowanberries); greenfood (chickweed, dandelion etc.); regular mineral supplements; white bread and eggfood for rearing

So I haven't a clue WHY it was suggested, but since i have homing pigeon i just wondered if i could give him a taste.
