So, we did not get over to A Helping Wing today, she wasn't feel well, so we are heading over next now. That means no time with Rosie today.

But since we were dressed and ready for a drive, Victoria said we had to go 'somewhere'.... So where might two bird nuts in Southeast Pennsylvania go to... why, yes, Birds Paradise in NJ... about an hour away (actually closer then the shelter!). Anyone who has ever been to mybirdstore.com - that is the internet store for Birds Paradise, and you would be amazed how much more they have in the store. Its kinda like walking into a candy shop :)

We needed to order food, so we decided to just drive over, what the heck... We did save 30% on the bulk conure mix of their food we get. Was almost 4 lbs worth, so was $35 worth of food and saved 30% on that with store coupon... worth the drive :)

We usually order toy parts from them, but when you go into the store, there is literally an area that is nothing but bins of toy parts - you name it, its there... and they don't list even 10% of what they have online, so we have a field day... spoiled birds!!!

We visited babies too and even their adoption birds, but just nobody that caught our attention, not that we were really looking, just the wandering thru to see what they had.

Then we had to stop at Petsmart when we got closer to home, had to pick up some birthday toys for a very special boy :) My husband passed us on the road coming home from work and I texted him... believe his exact words when he called was 'what could you possibly need from Petsmart after going to Birds Paradise' :)

After that we stopped in another local pet store to pick up goliath worms for the beardie.... and they do a lot of birds from local breeders too, usually have some beautiful friendly birds, but super over priced... BUT, if I had not sure how much extra money laying about (and the room), we would have come home with a parrotlet (never realized how friggin cute they can be!!!, this little guy was soft green with some purplish markings)... and a high red pineapple green cheek boy that was so funny and a big hefty boy for a GCC.... and then there were the cockatiels (and I'm not a cockatiel fan), but every group had a prettier one in the mix then the last... think Tor would have picked out at least 3 if she could!!

Didn't bring home any birds... saving that space for hopefully Rosie still, but was funny to stand there debating whether or not to get the little parrotlet.

So that was our day... bad news, no Rosie time... good news, lots of goodies from Birds Paradise... interesting news... hmmm, a parrotlet...

I think its time for an intervention....

I am so jealous! I wish we had a store even a little like that close to here:( It sounds amazing.
Now as for the intervention, probably not going to get a lot of that here:)
In fact, may I call your attention to the bullying thread?
lolol
I have 2 parrotlets and they are adorable! As full of personality as the big guys but take up so much less room (hint hint).

Sorry you didn't get your Rosie time today, when can you go back to see him?

I would have taken the Mobrella home to save it from the idiots who wander in that store! Oh looky how cute the white birdie is....GAH.... Plus its in a small cage with like one toy...I'm hoping the feathers on the floor are from molting....

Before anyone gets to upset about the mobrella... the store does have large enclosed play room that the big birds go into daily. We also are pretty sure the larger birds go into bigger cages in the locked office after the store closes.

As far as stores go, they do a great job, all the birds get fresh fruits / veggies everyday and they have a couple dedicated bird people who are bird lovers with their own at home. They are just way overpriced and I don't like that they still would likely sell to not the best home for the bigger birds....

Okay, Terry... tell me about the parrotlets... I'm gonna use you for my shortcut to doing the proper homework!! :20: Victoria pulled up on her smart phone while we were standing there about personality and such... are they best as single birds, much like lovebirds do best with people when not paired? Are they ones that are out and about with you like the conures and toos? I just have in my head that they are an interactive bird much like our GCCs or the sun, even Ivory on a much less scale (what other bird is ever as needy as a too!!!). I joke I could not get another larger interactive bird, but little guy that could hide in my hair and Ivory would never see might be another story!!! I think they may be overpriced, Tor found a variety of pricing for them, but the baby there was $199. Found a pic of one online to show my husband that looked identical to the guy we saw, so not sure if this is a common coloring, but still thought $199 seemed high, but could be totally wrong!! Here is what the little guy looked like...

Seeing Rosie... I know it won't be Monday, I have lined up a couple guys to interview for the company I work for part time. Wednesday is out because of Tor's college class schedule... So Tuesday or Thursday maybe. We were going over for volunteer stuff - photos for petfinder and such. We looked at the amazons at Birds Paradise and we both kept saying, the ones a the shelter were just so much more beautiful! :) none could compare to my Rosie...

Okay, the little guy in the picture looks like my PeeWee (He and his mate, Sproutlet, are in my signature).
We got PeeWee from a breeder and he was handfed, but he was not really socialized. We got him out every day, but he never really bonded with us and seemed lonely. I found Sproutlet on Kijiji and we got her. She was never tamed, and kept in a dark basement. We split his cage and put her on one side and him on the other, and then let me be together after a couple of months. He now wants zero to do with us, he is completely focused on her. I have a friend who has a pair, but they both remained tame, so maybe it is the individual bird. Hers sit on her shoulder all the time, but PeeWee has never been like that:( He just likes to hang out on top of his cage, and she doesn't even like to come out. He plays all the time and loves even the bigger toys.

As far as personality, he is bursting with it! He is the funniest little guy and loves to play. He thinks he is a big bird, and I am afraid what he would do if we had him out in the same room with the real big ones. He and Sproutlet are in my small bird room with the finches, canaries, etc.

Price I'm not sure about since I am up here - we paid $250 for PeeWee and $55 for Sproutlet.

I think a little parrotlet would be a great addition for you while you are waiting for Rosie to come home:)

I don't know much about parrotlets temperament or care, but I did almost cave and bring one home once. In a very cute cage made for little birds called "featherstone estate" or something of that nature, shaped like a little victorian house, filled with all the cutesy little bird toys my monster could snap being a gentle boy.......:32: Absolutely beyond adorable little things and the ones I saw were very tame. I had to drag myself out of the store kicking and screaming:54:

Though, I think you will never forgive yourself if you let Rosie go. He is absolutely stunning, and he belongs with a family who will truly recognize how special he is and give him the respect and love he deserves. JMO.

Parrotlet's are tiny little pitbulls. They have no concept that they are tiny and are convinced they can take anyone and everyone on, full of attitude. The pic you posted looks like a regular pacific parrotlet to me.

They are cute little terrorists.

I'm looking forward to Rosie coming home with you, but the little guys deserve a wonderful home too and they don't take up much space, well, except in your heart. Cockatiels weren't on the top of my wanted bird list, but now that I have one, I've totally changed my mind. Her behavior is similar to the bigger cockatoos. Just saying...

We have 4 tiels in the house and outside of being so pretty, ours are nothing like their too relatives. They are definitely not on my list :). But just my opinion, no harm or insult to all the btiel fans!!!

I need to do more reading... Have my little Cam... Hes hand tamed -doesn't bite, but won't stay with person. He loves coming out to just hang and fly about. Who knows maybe another small bird to distract me waiting for Rosie!!!

Jen, I don't thing THIS is the place to ask for an intervention :54:

Let us know how Rosie is doing when you get to see him again :)

That little parrotlet is so dang cute!!

Jen, maybe we can meet at Bird Paradise one day? I go there at least once a month. :D They're about 45 minutes south-west of me, which is a good thing. Were they any closer, I'd be in the poor house. :54:
