Today was the day I would have bought home my baby Ringneck.

I went to the breeder's house and I simply can't believe what I found. The house was really unclean and reeked, they had LOADS of birds in tiny cages (most of them had beak problems and/or plucked), were fed an awful diet of just seed, the birds were older and were NOT tame, they had at least 4 big dogs making a lot of noise and the people there were unfriendly and lied to me about the birds, they were constantly trying to get me to buy birds while I was there.

The pictures they sent me were from another breeder, and the Blue Throated Conure was actually a Painted Conure.


I'm going to wait and see if I can find any good Ringneck breeders, but I don't think I will find any. I don't think I will ever find any Blue Throated Conures either because they are so rare.

I really can't believe it. I've been disappointed by breeders so many times. I thought I was FINALLY getting two tame young birds from a good nearby breeder, but I was wrong. I won't be buying from this "breeder" EVER.

That has to be the most sad story of any bird lover.

I know its hard to find "local" breeders sometimes, can you have birds shipped in the UK ?

Hi, Emily. What an awful letdown! Sorry you had to go through that. I know there are some unscrupulous breeders out there, but that situation was just ridiculously bold-faced! Pictures of babies from ANOTHER breeder?!? Seriously?!? What, did they think you'd just figure your new baby went through some crazy growth spurt?!? Smh. Shameful.

But don't lose heart. Like others have said, you will find a bird that's right for you. It will just take a little longer is all.

I hope this isn't too ignorant a question, but is it possible to get birds shipped from mainland Europe? It seems the Netherlands has more species available than just about anywhere.

Wow, that's awful! I'm so sorry things didn't work out. I wish I knew of a good IRN breeder to recommend. I feel so bad for the birds in that house. It doesn't sound like a healthy environment at all.

If I found a good enough breeder I would be fine with a bird being shipped.

I will see if I can find anyone outside the UK who has birds.

I will definitely look in to it.

Shipping by Airlines is fairly safe and done a good bit of the time here in the US
From Florida to Pennsylvania is only 1 1/2 hours by Jet plane, costs range from $125 to about $250 US dollars depending on bird size and distance

You can do a fairly good job of verifying breeders, first most have Facebook and with some simple cross-referencing you can tell if they are "fake" or get "fake" reviews

Also, in the US we have places like birdbreeders.com to help us confirm the legitimacy of Breeders, maybe there is something like that in Europe

If you PM me a FB page of a breeder I will give it my best once over for an opinion

The entire back wall of what used to be a garage was just filled with conures, keets, caiques, just for breeding.. Only reason I bought Yoshi was to get him out of there ASAP, before someone less experienced came along. All on sunflower seed diets.
I agree with what the others said, the right bird will find you. It just wasn't meant to be this time. Sometimes we have to go through heartache before we get to our new forever friend, but when you find your baby(ies), it will be worth it.
Keep your chin up. You've got lots of friends here to support you through it.

Some people just have no idea how to keep birds, or they simply don't care enough to keep them in good conditions. I think its safe to say that person won't be keeping birds anymore. I'm going to spend some time looking for a good breeder and I'm going to be more careful who I choose to buy from this time.

I do believe I will find a good breeder eventually.

I don't know if you already saw the thread, but I brought home a baby yellow sided Green Cheek a few days ago. http://www.parrotforums.com/conures/44261-my-new-yellow-sided-green-cheek-conure.html I couldn't resist buying him when I found him. I also thought bringing home another bird might make me feel less sad about not getting my other two birds.

Well.. No offense to anyone who has tropical fish/salt water tanks(I think they're beautiful.) but fish aren't really 'companion' pets. Plus I know the tropical fish/salt water fish are hard to take care of. Like if you have an anemone, and it dies, then it pretty much crashes your whole tank. Which is a TON of $$$.
It's easier to be compassionate/empathetic when these situations occur with parrots because everyone here understands what it's like.
However, with something as costly as tropical fish, it's pretty easy for people to point fingers and say "It's your fault. If you're not experienced enough to know what to look for then you shouldn't be doing it at all." And throwing blame instead of offering help.
No one here can blame you for being fooled by someone who was trying so hard to lie and cover his awful breeding. Especially since you walked away without your babies(Which weren't even babies!!), which you were so excited about. There's absolutely nothing you could have done, so there is NO reason for anyone to try and blame you. Anyone who tries will likely be chewed out to no end by everyone else.
Anyway.. Rant over! I'll be keeping an eye out for updates regarding your new family members in the future.

When I first started keeping tropical fish I made a lot of mistakes (tanks too small, bad water quality, ect) so I went to fish forums for help and advice, but all I got was people telling me I shouldn't be keeping fish at all. I did manage eventually to keep fish successfully, but now I don't keep fish anymore because of all the work they were.

It was very difficult leaving all those birds behind, but that person won't be keeping birds anymore anyway, so the birds will be in a better place now.

I will post updates on my new bird and I will post if I find any good breeders too.

My guess why people who keep birds have a different personality and etiquette on forums (generally speaking) is because birds are highly sensitive, feeling, companion animals, and attracts people who like birds because of these qualities, and everyone expects others in the group to understand this like-mindedness.

Keeping fish is more about water chemistry and balance, husbandry, and mechanics of your equipment. Dry, unemotional... kind of like a computer forum.

You should turn that breeder in!!!! Not all breeders are like that, unfortunately you've met a few that were bad....
