Soo I havemt been on in a little while. Sorry I've been busy. I am working a new full time job that I love and taking Dusty and my german sheperd with my for nice 3 mile walks when i get out of work.

Anyway, My dear Dusty has decided to become Destructo-Bird. Never before has he ever destroyed anything including toys. I had to throw out three of his toys in the past two weeks cause he has ripped them to shreds. He has also taken to ripping holes in my shirts...which i have done my best to discourage. The cover which i have had for his cage for the past four years now has giant holes in it... All from the past week. I dont know what has gotten into him.

Other than that Dusty has been the same loveable pain in the butt as he has always been

Sounds like he's finally behaving like a dusky!

I have NO t-shirts without holes in them. They go from brand new and perfect to fishnet in a couple of weeks.

Could be the clue is in your post: "Soo I havemt been on in a little while. Sorry I've been busy. I am working a new full time job that I love". Are you around a lot less? Is Dusty missing his routine? Maybe he will settle in time.

Good poing MP. A change in routine can set them off. When I read DD's post I thought this is normal conure behavior.

Auggie didn't start shredding shirts and things like that right away. I suppose hewas probably about 4 years old when he did. It could be part of nestling behavior: not necessarily BUILDING the nest, but shredding soft materials in preparation to make a nest.

Many say you don't want to encourage nesting, and there's good reason for this particularly for females. But as long as it does not lead to any problems I prefer to allow for any natural behavior to take it's course.

As an example Auggie has claimed a footlocker that was used to move his toys and supplies to the new apartment as his nest. A fe things were left in there including a cardboard box and some rags, the lid got propped open just enough for him to get in and out, and in he went. He has become very defensive of that box - he doesn't want me going in it. But this hasn't led to any behavioral problem outside of that box. When I come in the room he scuffles around in there to finish up whatever project he's working on then he spends time with me. I don't mind him being territorial and defensive of that space: it's HIS. I like to have my space too.

I'm not sure exactly what he does with his time in there, I've peaked in on occasion to make sure it's safe. He's shredded the box and moved around the toys and trinkets. He seems to certainly have a system to it even if I don't understand it. He regularly goes in to do some home-improvement on his bachelor pad in the hope that one day a Ms Conure will come check it out.

Dusty's routine has not changed. I'm working the same hours I did before at my other job, it's just a new job.

AD, funny you say that auggie started shredding around four years. Dusty turned four years old in June. He has changed quite a bit inthe past year. He has started talking also. He said his second set of words last night when I covered his cage. I always tell him " night-night Dusty" as I cover his cage. Well I'm pretty sure he repeated " night-night" back to me last night.

Dusty has a bunch of shreddBle toys in his cage that he is now content with. I am trying to discourage him shredding my clothing and his cage cover. He has for the most part caughton that I'd rather him not shred my clothing.

Dusty is just growing up LoL sure sounds like a phase they go through, :09:especially after reading AD responses.
So glad Dusty is talking some more, there's no stopping him now.

Oh gosh I could only just imagine... Haha Disty would love it I'm sure. He's constantly following my dog around the house. My German Shepard seems to like his company. She defends him and is very gentle when dusty is on her. I still can't believe that they get along so well

Hey I remember seeing a picture of Dusty sitting on your German Shepard's back !!!!!! I loved that picture :07:
