Cool, thanks for posting! We are going to the Denver Zoo in a few weeks. We went to a children's zoo last month and watching the macaws was so fun. They were totally haming it up for us and ripping up the trees. My son was laughing so hard:)

Thanks for sharing the wonderful pictures. I had no idea they had Kea parrot in the zoos....A once almost extinct specie .....Really smart cool birds....

Kea are meet eating parrots that are truly rate. I bet they are trying to breed them.

Photos are truly wonderful. I especially like the fox one. Have to put this zoo on my long list of places to see. I would love to see the zoos in California.

Nice pics! I cant believe they have a kea, arguably the smartest parrot in the world. I get to go to the Santa Barbara zoo for my birthday, I cant wait!

Love the pics! :)
Esp the fox.

Kea's are the funniest parrots ive met. You hear so many stories of them stealing things from your bag and taking things from your car. Haha that's why we aren't allowed to feed any wild ones. They are very cheeky.

They aren't in the part of town I live in, but when I went camping for school. We encountered one. It stole a few things from us.

We do have some in the zoo near by and you can go and feed them and stuff. They do like to take your sunglasses and things like that :p

You will love it! Be sure to check out the "Lorikeet Adventure". It's basically a big fenced in aviary full of lorikeets and lories that you can interact with and feed. There is also a building called "Bird World", which has lots of different rooms with free-roaming birds (this is where the macaws are located).

They also JUST finished their brand new Asian animal exhibit, featuring 4 Asian elephants, along with a variety of other animals. We got a "sneak peek" of the exhibit and it is really cool!

Love the pics! :)

That's what I've heard. I have a friend who studied abroad in New Zealand and she got to see some of them in the wild. I would love to go there some day!

great pictures thanks for sharing but it makes me sad to see lions in zoos.maybe its because i live in south africa and love watching then in their natural habitat , but beautiful pics all the same

I read that they, Kea, actually land on the back of sheep in Australia and peck thru their backs and eat their kidneys!:11:

I'm so excited to feed a lorikeet now!!! Also I just read about the keas in Bird Talk so really want to see them! You made my visit to see my inlaws more bearable;) lol

Solobaby I agree, big cats in zoos make me sad, unless they have really big, great habitats. I hate to watch them do that pacing thing they do. I have a love/hate thing with zoos. Some zoos are great, some seem more like torture. One time I went to bush gardens tampa and the elephants were so sad, it ruined the whole trip. But then there is our zoo here in Nebraska that has the biggest indoor rainforest and the animals all look very happy. They also have a desert dome that has a dark swamp exhibit underneath which is very well done. I think it just depends on the zoo. I haven't been to the Denver zoo for years but I remember it being a happy zoo:) Last time I was there a male peacock kept chasing me. I think he was in love;) lol \

San Diego is also of course amazing zoo too! All the animals looked very happy. I loved watching the gorillas.
