Rest in Peace Rio
A friend and I decorated mugs today. Since I know I wouldn't be able to paint a picture of a bird or bird feathers, I got an idea! I put their real feathers onto my mug! Here's some pictures (all the same mug, just different views)

It should be completely dry tonight, so I'm going to use it for my bedtime tea or hot chocolate. I just hope the feathers/paint stay on when I wash it. :)

Very very very nice..... looks beautiful
So colourful and what great imagination.
Never mind the washing....... are you gong to put the mug in the microwave?
Whatever..... I think it's lovely.
They would make wonderful ornaments if all else fails.

What a clever lady you are to make these. Nice gifts for bird lovers also. Guess now you will be looking for mugs wholesale.

I admit, I would love one! Rowdy is done molting though for now. I now wish I had saved the pretty red tail feather Merlin lost a couple of day ago, and a nice wing feather. Petey just molted out a lovely tail feather as well. Hmm, may save some up and pay you to make me one!

Too Cute! I want one.

I got a pretty wing feather from Pete tonight, lol! I hid it from the cat. She's been taking any feathers that land on the floor and putting them next to her food dish, lol!

Thanks everybody! I have a couple tail feathers from River, I tried to see if I could use one, but since the shaft is thicker/harder it didn't want to bend to the mug so I went with more "bendy" feathers. lol. Wonder if I could do something to a tail feather to make the shaft get softer?

Yes Antoinette, plan is to put it in the microwave. Hmmm... as far as I know there's no metal content in the paint/varnish or feathers! Guess I will find out if it sparks! LOL

that's so fun!! What kind of paint did you use?

You might be able to apply some of the stiffer feathers vertically.

I used acrylic paint. Bad news though, just rinsing the cup washed the paint right off. The feathers stayed though, I varnish over them to make them stick. I'm going to try repainting and putting varnish over the paint and see if that works.

looks very pretty and creative! I hope the paint is able to work out better on your next attempt.

Such a cute idea! when any of our babies lose feathers my husband tapes them to his motorcycle helmet so they can "ride with him"

My two sons almost disowned me a few weeks ago, when I took Mishka's feathers (made the letter M) and wanted to frame them !!!!!!
The just don't understand us birdie people properly do they.
