Blue and Gold Macaw Harley Quinn (FKA Harvey) Adopted 11/24/2015 @ 15 years old
I have noticed since Davy has becoming more and more comfortable with exploring he is very clumsy. He will try to walk across the top of his cage and "trip" and almost fall. He sometimes misses the perch when he reaches out, like from the side of his cage to the perch. Now he doesn't actually fall, just reminds me of a toddler learning how to walk.
My theory is two fold, first off he was in a tiny cage, with all the same sized perches and no room to play, and rarely let out. And two, his toe nails are very long.
He now has a variety of different sized perches and one that he can wear his nails down on, but it hasn't really helped much yet. And as he doesn't completely trust me yet, I absolutely do not want to towel him and do it myself, yet. So I will most likely be making him a vet appointment to have a general check up and grooming. (I like Birdman's idea of letting someone else be the 'badguy')
Do you think I should be worried that something is "wrong"? Otherwise he seems completely healthy, eats well, is molting and his feathers are coming in are so bright and pretty. No other signs of any illness. I am a huge klutz myself, so if that is just Davy, I am completely okay with it, I am just wondering if this could be a sign that something else is wrong.
