Two cockatiels: Sharlett (Cinnamon Pied) and Data (White-Faced Pied)
My birdie seems to like making me worry. Data the tiel is puffed up today and was puffed up yesterday. But not for the whole day. I think I got him out around naptime (he wanted out.) He still likes being out, and he was hungry this morning because he didn't have food left and I slept in too late both today and yesterday. Data hasn't talked when I've been around but he is making vocalizations and walking around his cage as normal. He still calls for me when I leave the room and will ask to get out for playtime. He is cuddling up to me but I don't know if that is because
I'm worried and nervous which makes him worried and nervous since he picks up on my emotions. And if he's worried he is probably cuddling me because I'm his mommy. He has eaten today.

Maybe I'm just paranoid and worrying too much. I hope that is the case. Maybe my waking up late threw off his schedule and freaked him out? He is pooping normally and is curious about some things but he also seems a bit sleepy. (They have more than one naptime. They don't always nap but they get quiet and relax.

Do you guys think I should be worried? (He is chewing on my phone cord as he usually does. Don't worry, I take the cords away from him)

OMG, I recall the early years with the Rickeybird... I was constantly worrying. I noticed the skin on the sides of his beak were gray, wondered if that was normal. He sneezed and I panicked. He was slightly less horribly loud than usual, and I just knew something was wrong. Thing is, though, birds are just that hard to read. They hide their illnesses, of course, so as to stay tight with the flock. I don't have an answer for you, but I do have a biggggg huggggg!

Thank you for the hug!

Yeah, they are. :( My mom got her hair cut short recently and I don't know if that wierded Data out. His feet feel pretty warm and his chest is warm which seems to be a good sign.

Has the Rickybird ever become nervous because he knew you were nervous? Because I also wonder if that is the reason Data doing this.

YES, he senses it... since they see such a vast color spectrum as opposed to us, and since their sense of smell and taste is poor, I suspect they see changes in our heat-state, or aura. I dunno, but yes, he can tell if I'm upset, and usually screams and bites me. I have been told this is a natural male parrot impulse to make his hen fly away when danger is near. Or maybe he just gets upset and tries to bite something. He will NOT cuddle when I'm upset, and gets all tall and skinny (a fear reaction in most parrots), based on what I have read.
Now sometimes he fluffs a bit more during moult...

Perhaps Data is molting. He broke off all of his tail feathers and is growing them back but I wouldn't be surprised if he is molting.

Data seems to look and see if I'm okay. Good to know that many parrots most likely can sense such changes. I believe they can and it makes sense that Data would be nervous because I'm nervous. :(

The Rickybird reminds me of Charlotte in that aspect since she is the more skittish of the two cockatiels.
