- Umbrella Cockatoo- 15? years old..I think?
I noticed that under her wing (on one of her wing feathers) there is an abnormality towards the end of her feather (it looks like the feather was split along the shaft, but not all the way through because it grew straight and it is connected etc...kind of like if a feather shaft could get a paper-cut vertically (following the shaft)--- it is only blackish along the "split"---DK if split is the best word...it still looks like a single feather). It is less than 1/2 inch....maybe 1/4 of an inch? It is still attached to the rest of the feather and the shaft is normal on either side of the abnormality---the texture of the darkened area is not smooth (like the rest of the shaft) it is like there was a superficial injury to the shaft in this area because the texture is rough in the colored spot.
The actual blood supply is closer to her skin, BUT I am wondering if an earlier injury (while it was growing) could have resulted in this feather abnormality...
I am super worried that it could be something worse because I am paranoid and already hyper-sensitive about her health---I only see it on this 1 feather...
