Yellow Shoulder Amazon, Salty
Hi my name is Salty and I am a yellow shoulder Amazon. I am five months old. I am told I am a pretty rare bird. my dad and mom really love me especially my dad who has had paRrots all his life. I am down to one feeding a day and I love my pellets and my veggies. And of course a few seeds now and then. I am learning to fly but not so good right now. My cage is really big and filled with toys. I am one of the smallest of the Amazons not as big as A double yellow head but bigger then BB parrot. Right now I weigh 265 grams. dad is teaching me my first trick which is to lay on my back in his hand. I am not crazy about it but I will do anything for seeds. I am just learning my first words hello and my name Salty.

Welcome to the Parrot Forums! There are lots of parrots here and an area that is devoted to just Amazons and I favor that forum. At 17, I'm a big health DYH Amazon (550 g.) and have been flying since I was your age.

Amazon's Have More Fun!

Hello Salty! Welcome to the forums! If you have a favorite photo of yourself, we'd love to see it, you sound like a very pretty bird. Tell your dad he's welcome here too.

Keep up the good work during training sessions, I promise it will pay off. Humans are so gullible, they get all goofy when we learn new things.

Your new friends, Poppy, Harry, Sweet Pea, Twinkle, Piper and Sammy. Pssst, none of us are Amazons.

Well Dad and Mom are really giving me a good home, and their sons (my hmmmm human brothers) also help out and like to play with me too. Erik and Brett un-cover me and give me some food first thing in the AM. Then its alone play time until Mom gets up and changes my water and gives me my veggies for the day. She is trying hard to make friends, but she is a little nervous and I sometimes lunge at her ( and I have no idea why, because she is the person I am around the most). SHe spends a lot of time reading about parrots on this computer thing, and she spends time talking to me every day. We are both stubborn and I dont think she is giving up anytime soon. Then at 6PM or so Dad comes home, and says Hi to me ( after Mom) and takes me out for some play time and trick training. If I am in the mood, I let him skritch my forehead and rarely my neck. Sometimes it is exploring time, sometimes it rough housing on the big bed. Then Dad feeds me my last birdy formula for the day, less and less each day, but sometimes I eat a LOT. Then we all watch TV and soon its beddy bye.
