I will be moving justine back to my place in a few weeks as my family is going out of the country for a month. I have had this wild idea to build a wooden box that the cage can sit in with medium size casters. The reason being, I can place paper on the floor to catch any droppings or food that she throws overboard when she is playing. But I know that it will still hit the floor.

Before I had a large box cover that was from a pallet at costco on the floor but every time I needed to clean up I had to lift the cage out of the box to dump it out. Sometimes ants come to it as well since it was cardboard, water from her bowl would make it soggy and it would take a while to dry up.. the longer the more ants.

The idea is to make it so I can open a side of the box and clean it then close it without having to worry about water or ant traps in the cabinets and those work but I wanted to see if I could make is more easier clean.

Another option is to put her cage in my room (master bedroom) but I hear mixed reviews from the store and other owners that it is a bad idea..

ideas welcome..:white1::white1:

I don't know if my idea can be used, but I have mounted window boxes on the sides of the cage to catch food and pooh on the outside of the cage. They are easily emptied and are quite inexpensive (I have the plastic ones)

That's a good idea! If Salty spent any time in his cage , eating, I'd steal your idea in a minute. But he eats all the wet stuff on his boing outside his cage, and the big, big stainless bowl under it catches 95% of the 'drop' and the droppings.

If my macaws would stay IN their cages when they eat and poop, I would not need the window boxes :p They tend to sit on top of the cages and it seems everything end just outside the cages :18:

To begin with it seemed almost out of spite, when they would sit with their butt on the cage and they then stick their rump about 2-3 inches off the edge of the cage and poop on the floor. Now I giggle every time I hear a small thump sound (poop in plastic window box) with a feeling of "hahah you didn't hit the floor" :30:
