Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
ONE OF THESE GUYS! We were just talking about turkey vultures the other day, and how surprisingly affectionate they could be. Then I found out about these guys.

Man, those are strange looking. Sounds like a pain to feed and to keep, but I'd sure love to play with one some time.

What the??? Wow, cool :)

Yes! I love those parrots! Thank you for sharing :) They are amazing and beautiful! So rare! But they fall into the category that should never be owned! :) Kakapo, kaka, kea, palm cockatoo! So beautiful and smart! But I hope no one ever put them into the pet trade! Honestly, any parrot should not have been pets. They should all be flying free! But since they are here and would not be able to survive, we will love and care for them as much as possible! :)

What a regal looking bird! They also look like a dragon/CAG cross, lol. We also have tons of turkey vultures and wild turkeys.

I thought you were going to say breeding female vasa with their naked heads :)

THOSE I've actually played with. Had an escaped Vasa show up in my tree one day... His owner brought the bird's mate over to my place in the hopes that we could lure that bird down. Came close twice, but he spooked both times and flew off.

WHY??? tamper with creation.

We didn't.

That's a real life parrot native to new guinea... they're fig eaters. Not vultures.

They're just shaped like vultures, and have the body of a vulture.

They're such specialized feeders I would never in a million years try and keep one, or even want to...

I've heard of those before. Interesting they are affectionate as a rule. Though, they have kinds been put in a position of needing their "inner beauty" to shine through;)

There are also bald headed parrots that look like a parrot with a vulture head.

Overview - Bald Parrot (Pyrilia aurantiocephala) - Neotropical Birds

:eek::eek: That looks quite a bit like Barney! Perhaps his momma bird got a little confused when selecting a mate;) lololol

Speaking of bald parrots that look slightly vulture like:54:

(And yes, he is a SWEETHEART. What he lacks in beauty, he makes up for in his gentle, sweet, kind personality)

Well, all animals were never supposed to be owned, in my personal opinion. Dogs originate from wolves (some from other kinds of canines), and cats from many wild cats all over the world. In a way we were never supposed to raise animals. No other animal does but us. I think that at some point, an animal will be domesticated. It's just that not a lot of people have the room for other creatures, and those that do, can be illegal where they are. It's just a matter of space, time, commitment, spreading the word, making them more available, etc. Those kinds of things would make them less expensive and more attracted, thus equaling anything could be domesticated hypothetically. So I do agree that parrots should not have been, at the same time, I believe all animals weren't mean to be pets. :)

Thanks for the lesson, Mark! Extremely cool bird!

April, I think Barney is adorable and I bet he's as sweet as he looks!

Wow. They look a bit like giant Lorikeets to me. Thanks for sharing.

Their diet actually isn't impossible, just very messy! They need a lot of fruit, just like toucans :)
