My daughter asked for a parrot and I said no, my husband said yes. I agreed to just look at them and then got suckered into buying one and hand feeding and weaning it which I had no clue how to do.

Then the bird bonded to me more than anyone else. Even though I never wanted a bird in the first place I try to do the very best for her to socialize her and make sure she is well adjusted. Well my husband and kids have the nerve to call me " the crazy bird lady".

I love her so much now, but I don't think I qualify as a crazy bird lady lol.

I think I'll need to at least adopt another senegal, maybe a cockatoo and 7 budgies before I can be known as the crazy bird lady.

We use to have a crazy cat lady on our street, but they moved out years ago. So now I can take her place except only with birds.

I joined the forum about the same time Peanut came home and have enjoyed watching your evolution from "what the heck do I do now?" ti this confident crazy bird lady who knows how to hand feed and wean a chick. WAY TO GO. And I think we both qualify as CBLs even with only one bird - since we're both crazy about the one bird we have [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji7][emoji7]

Apparently it's common here. I didn't know anything about birds prior to that and they spent about 5 minutes showing me how to feed her. It didn't seem that difficult and actually it wasn't. But, upon further research I found out all kinds of problems could happen that they didn't tell me about which lead me to this forum.

I wasn't too concerned about crop burn because I used a thermometer and made sure the temperature was exact and the consistency was exact. I even tasted it myself first. It's not that terrible unless you have a hangover.

Causing the bird to aspirate freaked me out though and I was very close to bringing her back to the pet store. But luckily she did well, I've read some horror stories about some babies birds that ended up dying. So I wouldn't do it again.

I wouldn't say I know much about hand feeding and weaning a chick, I think I just got lucky that Peanut is a garbage disposal who loves eating. She was never finicky about taking her formula or accepting other foods when I started to wean her. She's a little piggy.

I'm pretty sure Kizzy's breeder wouldn't have sold Kizzy to just anyone. At one point, he and I were both part of a local bird club and he saw my baby CAGs and Senegals for himself. He knew I could do it. But yeah, it's kind of a stupid thing for a breeder to do with the general public. I only sold birds that had been weaned for at least two weeks and I weaned them slowly.

Also, I'm just fine with being a crazy bird lady.
