I saw this while I was browsing.

" I have time for them. I can help you with your birds. I have time for them. I have a big room for some birds. I let them fly around. I can pick them up. "

I instantly flagged it. I hope no one falls for this trick.

I don't have enough fingers and toes to count how many posts I see about "wild and domestic bird rescue" and "Will take your unwanted birds with no rehome fee" etc etc etc. Just a bunch of hoarders/flippers if you ask me. I feel like any smart bird owner would contact a certified rescue directly rather than look for some sketchy dude on craigslist, yknow? I don't get it. D:

I try not too even look at craigslist anymore. Too many animals in need of much better homes, and I can't help them all :( plus when i was in college my roommate advertised his tv and put the address so our house got broken into. No one was home and nothing but the tv was taken, so thats a plus at least. Call me overly paranoid, but I'd rather not deal with the crazies lol

I just posted about a weird posting last week - a guy was offering his parakeet for free! I thought it's very risky… Free dog or cat can be okay, but birds are different story. BTW we went with my husband to see a 'free' dog last week, and you wouldn't believe how cute and awesome dog it was! The guy who came just 2 min before us took him! ;( But that was a really nice guy, and I'm sure he is not gonna resell the dog or anything like that. But I think it's crazy to give away the birds.
And you're right - I'm so annoyed by seeing these crazy "unwanted birds" adds over and over on CL. Totally dumb.

I would NEVER put an ad on CL about a free dog/cat. Only a few months ago here in NJ a couple was snatching up free dogs they found on CL. They were eventually caught torturing one to death.

I definitely don't blame you. I keep an eye out on a somewhat regular basis- sometimes I can forward the ad to a friend of mine who would be interested, etc etc.
I'd NEVER post my address on my ad.. I leave my phone number because bots will email you but not text you.. only after talking to someone for a bit do we decide if we want to meet them or not.
Plus, I feel like I'm pretty good at weeding out the 'crazies' (knock on wood!!) the thing that keeps me from wanting to rescue all the birdies is their price tag. These people are trying to get back everything they spent on their birds, it's nuts. I almost took home a sun conure but they wanted $250 for him and his cage(that was WAY too small.) They wonder why he screamed when he's in his cage.. cause he's got no room!!
Anyway, rant over. Point is, I agree with you, I guess I'm just more of a risk-taker.. as long as my bodyguard- err- boyfriend goes with me..

Oh.. Jeez..!!! I mean it's a good thing they got caught but it makes you wonder how many there were before that one.. Ugh.
Most of the time I worry about flippers here, NEVER thought about something as awful and outlandish as that!! Makes me sick.
There was a guy who tried to sell me a bird cage for $200 and when I inquired further about the condition of the cage he said he'd spray painted it to cover up some rusty spots.
He used just a generic paint that was sitting around the garage so of course I politely declined and informed him that the paint is toxic, and could kill a bird housed in that cage. He got mad and thew a hissy fit and re-posted his ad. So I flagged it(to no avail) and posted my own counter-ad warning people that the cage had been spray painted.. this guy obviously didn't care he was putting someone's bird in harms way just for some cash.
