Cracks on my parrot beak

Hello...

I see some cracks on my parrot beak! One of these cracks seems like it could be pelt off. Is this normal???

It can be, but it is also a sign of a vitamin deficiency. Is this your grey and how old is s/he?

Has s/he ever been in for a vet visit?

Without seeing a close up pic its hard to say, but parrots slough off the top layers of their beaks throughout the year, most notably during molting time, it should appear as surface cracks, not as cracks that go completely through the beak, you also want to make sure nothing gets into the cracks, such as food or toy parts ect that can lead to problems down the line, so for the most part, the appearence of small cracks or the look of chipping is normal.........

Agree with Bobby because the same thing happened to Rosie. I took her to the vet because I thought her beak was cracking and it was dx. as normal sloughing of the beak and she was molting at the same time. You could take a photo for us to see. The only way to be sure is to see you vet.

I agree with the previous - some flaking and chipping is perfectly normal - but a picture would be handy if you could get one.

A vet or experienced groomer can sand/buff out the beak and have it like new again. This is primarily a cosmetic treatment and not needed, but while I think Auggie disliked the process he really liked having a clean shiny beak.

Also this is, I believe, more common or at least more significant in younger birds.

My got my Congo grey a year ago, but I live in Lebanon so we don't get documents with birds so I can know his age , no I haven't check it with a vet yet coz we don't have bird spe******ts.

Well the only thing I could suggest then is to maybe take a few close up pictures of the beak and post them here, I don't think we have any vets on this forum, and probably not to many professionals, but many of us have quite a few years of experience and may be able to give some better advise after seeing what you describe instead of guessing on what we can't............

There are a couple of ways to post pictures here. The easiest is if you can 'host' them somewhere else: if you can upload the pictures to a photo sharing site like Flickr or a networking site like facebook you can then copy the url to the picture right into a conversation here.

Alternately we do have a photo gallery that you can upload the photo(s) to right on this site. I say this is an alternate, as while it's fun to have our pictures on our own site the interface for uploading photos to this site isn't as easy as those other sites.
