Well, my sun conure is terrified of his cage being covered.
So should I take him out and then put a cover on? Or should I not even bother?
He has a tent, but it's not in the cage because, he's terrified of that too. I would go ahead and hang it up, but I don't want to keep adding things to his cage and scare him all over again. He is new to this house, and is finally getting comfy in his cage after 3 long days.
I heard you do not need to cover their cage... However, it is a little chilly in here at night.
So any advice?

If it bothers him I would not do it ....as long as he is in a nice quiet place at night he should be able to sleep just fine . maybe you can gradually get him use to a cover a little at a time once he settles in better. Maybe lay the cover near his cage so he can get use to seeing it.

Thanks! Yeah I didn't put one on his cage last night and he seemed fine. :]

In both houses where we have had the birds we have good blinds and the birds are in a room that can be closed up at bedtime and which will stay dark until later in the morning. We don't cover cages.

Another solution I've heard people use is a small cage or travel carrier as a "bedtime cage" that can be relocated someplace dark and quiet for the night.

As long as your bird can get 10 hours or so of rest, a cover isn't necessary, IMO.

If he seems happy with you not covering the cage, no problem.
However make sure the room is warm and dark enough.

When I first tried to cover Mishka's night cage he freaked out.
I half covered the cage with a light sheet, placed him inside.
I sat talking and singing to him, until he seems calmer.
I then switched off the light, then covered the cage.
Never had a problem from then onwards.

Antoinette , you are a angel ! Im telling you , you have a very special bird there , but its all because of the love you give him.
You two have a special bond like no other.

Maxx my GCC LOVES his happy hut/tent. I would hang it in his cage, and he will get used to it. Maxx uses his a few times a day to takes naps and at 8p he will climb in it to go to bed for the night. I then cover his cage, and he is good until I uncover him at 7a in the morning.

Put the tent in his cage, cover him at night and he will be fine.

Some birds like to be covered, some don't. Whatever he prefers is what I would do. You could even just partially cover it, but leave an area where he can see out. Just see what works best for him.

I only cover Jax if he is still being noisy late at night and I think he should be sleeping. He is in the lounge room and even if we are still up watching tv, he still falls asleep without being covered.

If you dont stay up late and he get a good night sleep with out the cover I wouldn't worry him with it just make sure he not near any cold drafts. I cover all mine as I stay up late and the light keeps them a wake.

Thank you for the lovely compliment Mishka sends kisses :grey:
Our bond is incredible, a match made in heaven

My sun conure "Sunny" loves being covered at night! He gets covered with a big queen sized quilt that I bought for him. He starts playing and clicking and acting happy when I cover him! It's so cute! He also has a sleep hut hanging in his cage which he will use during the day to nap or just when he wants to cuddle up to it.
