So, my dad has two cockatiels in the aviary.
They laid five eggs and this week they should be hatching but when my dad went to check on the nest box... there was another 3 laid?

So in total 8 eggs and she does sit on them etc

So, what is happening here?

It's higher than usual but anywhere between 4-8 eggs is common. Sometimes they double clutch and just lay twice as many at once. Just because they lay so many, doesn't mean they will necessarily all hatch.

Also sometimes you will get 2 females who have paired off both laying. Doesn't usually happen with cockatiels, as usually the 2 sexes are easily identified, but with all the colour variations now it can happen. Are you 100% certain it's a male female pair?

I think I had that happen.

I got 2 Lutino Cockatiels :yellow1: and one started laying eggs every other day.
Then I got 2 eggs one right after the other. Normally there is a day in between laying so I figured the other bird was stimulated to lay an egg because the other one was doing so.

I’m pretty sure when my dad bought them the Male was dna proven... but I have been thinking this recently aswell. I’ll see if I can snap a shot of them both today and possibly the eggs [emoji1639]
