Josie - blue and gold macaw
I'm looking to change Josie from a normal cage to a corner cage. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm looking at an A & E corner cage. Anyone who has one, do you like it? If not, why?
Thanks :blue1:

I know quite a few Members have the Corner Cage and are very happy with it.

I am sure they will come along shortly and give you their verdict.

im diggin this post, im thinking of a corner cage myself, i just wasn't sure if they offered enough room for a gw to fully stretch out in. if not a corner cage my second thought was a double macaw and just pull the divider out so he/she has a taj mahal. a real taj mahal would be a indoor walk in aviary but i don't think i can afford one of those right off the bat. that might have to be a birthday present or a christmas present later on down the road.:)

I'm thinking the corner cage because of her location. She is in the center of the downstairs. The only thing she can't see is the staircase and the second floor. If she had the corner cage, she would be able to see even better because the cage she is in now, is big, but the one side of the corner would be bigger than what is in the corner now. I just don't know about cleaning and stuff. I really hope they are well liked because I will have to go back to the drawing board on this one and I've already obsessed on this for months.

well, i don't think cleaning would be any different than what she is in already. the only perk about a corner cage is that it is designed to be a space saver. but my thoughts are , a macaw cage ! who's really saving any space they are all huge. that's just something a macaw owner accepts. in my book anyways. but if that's what you truly want to get her then get it for her. i hear kings cages are a good brand as well. i also think they might make corner cages. i am not familiar with the a&e brand i should look those up.

Don't go with a corner cage that has a rounded front or one with V shaped wires.

Corner cages can only fit in the corner. Instead of having one tray and pan, they have two. This results in extra cleaning because there's extra bars that the birds can poo on. The one thing I dislike the most about my double flight cage is the divider that keeps the two cages together. There are two extra bars that the birds can sit on or poop on. Something that a similar cage made by another company doesn't have (I didn't know what brand it was when I purchased it). Not only that, but the separation between the trays and grates. I would find this annoying in a corner cage as well.

From all the owners that I know who have purchased a corner cage, I can only think of one complaint... and for the very reasons I stated. If you love them and don't mind the extra cleaning, then go for it!

I am not sure how cleaning is that different, Yes there are 2 trays, but that just means your bird gets more room, i would rather have a huge cage for Fargo instead of a smaller one, it's only a tiny bit more work and as long as he is happy :)
He LOVES it, lots of room and heaps of places to put things..

The size is: 185cm(H)x155cm (W) x123cm(D)

oh WOW! i like it even more now that i seen fargo sitting in it for a size comparison. he looks so content with his house. did your's come with the food skirts? i feel a bit more comfortable with that choice seeing fargo in it. i don't think it's going to be too small for a gw for sure. thank you so much for the visuals. as far as cleaning it wouldn't make a bit of a difference for me birds are messy to begin with. that comes with the territory. :)

I totally agree with you Tab... 2 trays makes no difference to cleaning whatsoever. It is a fantastic Cage :)

haha thats ok!!! :)
Yes it came with seed skirts, however i never used them because Fargo doesn't chuck his food at all!

I have never had a problem with him screaming or trying to get out of his cage when he's in there, and it's always open and he goes and sits in it and plays :)

and, i actually enjoy cleaning, it's quite easy at 6pm when he goes to his sleeping perch i get to work with the scrubbing :p but then there is the day he decides he will help and inspect... ;)

I have a corner cage. I put paper on top of the floor grills and that is what I change daily. My B&G does not use the floor of cage so why not just cover those bars with paper and then I dont have to clean. I put paper in the bottom 2 trays only in case something gets thru but mostly what gets thru is pieces of food. My B&G looks the same as the picture above for size comparison. One caution, total trans-cage perches need to be in the center because if you put them to clost to corner there is not enough room for the long tail feathers. I'll take pictures tomorrow and send them to you. I left the seed guard on and I run the paper right up over it. Also bought a hugh roll of butcher paper. we don't read news papers so ... I'll take pictures of that also.

If I could cover the center bar support for the trays and grates, I would! But my tiels *love* to chew on anything soft, including paper! And the last thing I want them chewing on is soiled paper!

I've also had food get stuck in the center area beneath the trays. I don't know how it gets there, either...

Tab, Fargo's cage is lovely!

Monicamc- yes that centre bar is the hardest part to clean, but if you remove the 2 grates, you can just get a sponge and run it along and everything comes off quite easily! If theres ever a stubborn piece of food or droppings i just get a tooth brush and scrub :)
With the part underneath the trays SOMETIMES on a rare occasion things get caught in the little bar section, most of the time pellets, but if you remove the 2 grates again you just run a sponge along it, its like a little tunnel with no top :p so everything gets pushed to the end in a little pile, which i then just vacuum up straight after! :)

Fargo would love to destroy paper if it was on the bottom of the cage as well hehe :09:

and thank you :D

That cage is BEAUTIFUL!!! Where'd you get it from? I hope they sell it online. ;)

ETA - it looks like one I've been eyeing online but not exactly sure.

Here's the one I was talking about. It looks the same except for the design on the front at the top and the one in the link has casters. What do you think? I just never realized how huge it actually is until I saw your pictures.
