Corner Cage - Good Option?

Hello!
Moving to a new house has become a possibility for my family, and along with some new furniture, I've been looking into getting a larger cage for my green Cheek Conure. I saw there's such thing as a wedge-shaped cage that could save a lot of space, but I don't know wether it would be comfortable for Watson or not. Here are the two I was looking at:

I have a few questions about them: First, is the bar spacing an issue with either? The Prevue cage has 7/8 bar spacing, which seems pretty big for a Green Cheek. Also, am I getting the most room for the cost? If there's another cage out there that isn't a corner cage, but is roomier and costs the same, I'd probably opt for that.

I really wouldn't go beyond 3/4" bar spacing. That's what Avery has, and any larger her feet wouldn't be able to properly walk across it. Even 3/4" is debated. I don't think you'll get much roomier with those prices, and likely not with proper bar spacing. Generally beyond those sizes you're placing a large bird such as an Amazon, Cockatoo, or Macaw.

Personally I'm not a fan of corner cages. They cut out a lot of space inside the cage, and despite saying they're 30" wide, it really means it's 30" wide from only one angle. I was considering one myself, but realized that the overall space was pretty reduced in comparison to a normal cage. For a GCC, though, I'm sure it'd be fine except for bar spacing. Have you ever considered a flight cage? They're very spacious and while they don't look as "pretty", they incredibly functional for conures:

She's dwarfed by the cage, but she loves it. It's roomy enough for her to fly/hop from perch to perch and I've got tons of toys and perches everywhere for her. Definitely a favorite buy for me.

Flight cages are much cheaper, just as roomy, and have safe bar spacing. That'd be my second choice opposed to mine, as I prefer having seed guards, but considering the other two cages you've suggested, I would definitely recommend the flight cage versus the other two.

Hate it, hate it, hate it! It may be hard to place perches and toys, it has "V" shaped wires (dangerous if a bird were to get an appendage stuck in the wider area and then slid down to the narrower end) and it's just... ugh. Please don't!

Might be alright if the bar spacing was appropriate.


Something to keep in mind.... corner cages often only fit in corners, which may be great if you only have corners available! But if you don't, they kind of look awkward anywhere else you might put them. They also have two trays instead of one, which I find annoying and does require extra cleaning. The second style of corner cages aren't so bad though since they are kind of squared off.


If you don't mind the color nor design, this might be a great cage for you!

Or if you don't mind spending the extra cash, this is another possibility, and not something you are likely to come across anywhere else since this cage is no longer produced.

HQ Bird Cages may also be coming out with a large cage meant for small parrots, if they ever decide to ship the cages to the USA vendor. Forgot where the link is to that cage, though! (for it's details)

I USED TO be a sucker for unusual shaped things just because they were different or looked interesting. I learned this lesson with fish tanks. Instead of just going for the rectangle, I'd get the other crazy shapes which reduce the inside horizontal swimming area and water surface area which is important for fish, and were awkward to clean, as well as only fitting into a certain shaped area of a room. Same thing mentioned above for bird cages. There's a good practical reason why most aquariums and bird cages are made a certain shape

My galah has a corner cage inside. I got it because I have NO room and I can fit it in my spare room/office/. If you can fit a narrow/long cage, I'd go for that instead. It's all right because I don't really have any options, and she's got her outdoor cage, and she isn't in there the whole time, but it does have a lot less space than a rectangular/square. The bars on mine are hugely spaced, they'd be way too big for a littler bird.

I know of a lot of people who use that cage and like it, it's a good choice! The only thing is that because it's made to be two separate cages, debris falls between the two bottom trays and can be hard to clean. Otherwise, I think it's a great buy! I couldn't find the bar spacing on my phone, but I'm assuming it's 1/2"? If so, I'd definitely say that'd make an excellent cage

My budgies are in one like that. They can really fly about in it. Yes, there is a little bit of a gap where you can choose to divide it into 2, it's not that big of a deal. It's also good because you can put the birds in one half and have a good clean of one side. You don't have to put them somewhere else. (probably not an issue for you with only one tame bird, but generally, it's useful, when I got new birds, I put them in the other half to see how they'd get on before they went in with the others)

EDIT: Also you can put tree branches in there up one end and there's still plenty of room.

I have an A&E Double Flight Cage..... I wish it was an HQ!

I did remember a couple of other cages... one I was looking at, but if I got it, I would have split the cage in half as I do not like how tall the cage is. (birds fly horizontally, after all!)

PS, here's the HQ cage that *MIGHT* be available someday in the USA..... it's 45 x 30, overall height of 73" and an inside height of 59", with 1/2" bar spacing.....
