What kind of toys are your birds favorites? Loki is my first conure (I was raised with big birds, with a B&G being the first bird I was ever exposed to other than budgies and tiels when I was really young) and I find that, while maybe it's his personality, he doesn't seem to like the "typical" toys.
Do any of you have experience with making your own toys? I made Loki a toy for Christmas, that he destroyed in a matter of 2 weeks (which I did expect). I made it from my knitting yarn and some wood beads and a couple of mother-of-pearl pieces. He loved it. He also prefers bells to display is displeasure in something (usually being put away when he didn't want to be, just glad it's not screeching!). Yet I've noticed he doesn't really "play". He nibbles, he rubs (malting has made him uber itchy, poor guy!) but I haven't seen a lot of play behavior.
He craves attention, probably because he didn't get any for the first year of his life, so if we're home, he prefers to be right with us. Not necessarily on us, but near us at minimum. I even bought him a larger than necessary cage so I could give him more toy choices and room to play, but he HATES it! He rarely goes inside it unless I force him in to it. If he's not near us, then he prefers to be on top of the large cage rather than be in it and playing. Not really sure what to make of it.
Any suggestions are welcome!! Like I said, Loki is my first "small" parrot and I haven't had birds in several years. I'm far from an expert and am always willing to listen to advice. Thanks!!
