Hi. I need some history or information on conure molting. Is molting and shedding is same thing ? Does it make conure little tire ? Mine is fancy conure ( black top ). He is about 1 yr and 6 months old. I’m little worried that I won’t able tell the difference between shedding , or over preening or plucking. This July 31st He started to shed like crazy in one or 2 nights. Only on his back. All of feathers came out His wings and front belly is intact. On the back part is all grey small feathers. And one day which is yesterday which i happened to the gray feathers some of them gone and I can see the skin part. On Saturday nite, he was acting so crazy like he was itching all over Preening and preening all over. I tried put my hand on his back to calm him down. Today which is not so bad and I am started to see new growth of feathers on his back. So please can anyone share any of this information for me to understand it. Thanks so much.
1st 3 photos on July 31.
4th photo is Saturday night and 5th photo is Sunday morning which is I see new lines of feather growth.

I have had the Rickeybird for 40 years. He molts twice a year... Christmas-ish and August-ish. Christmas is body/contour feathers. August is the works... wings, body, tail. He s cranky and eats more, especially for the works. Takes a few weeks each time.Sometimes he likes help with preening the casings, sometimes not. The Search engine here can probably give you more to read. I hope this hellps!
