I am getting a green cheek conure this Sunday and I was just wondering how much you guys spend on bird food per month for 1 green cheek? And which brand of conure food is most recommended? Thankyou

Considering I am from Australia, any pricing and brands I say are probably not going to be help to you sorry, but I just wanted to say congratulations on getting your new birdie and I look forward to seeing some pictures :)

I don't know exactly how much he eats per month but here is a rough estimate . About one bag of food is $13 and it lasts about a month and a half. We give him about a tablespoon or so of veggies per day and then he gets a few fruits as treats throughout the week, mostly berries (our vet recommended few fruits as they are high in sugar and he has a feather chewing issue) about 1/4 to a 1/2 almond in treats per day and then several times per week he gets beans and egg white. He also sometimes gets some people food treats (bit of bread etc) that are good for him but only in small doses and about a teaspoon of seeds per week or thereabouts. I don't find him very expensive food-wise. But others may have a different experience. Probably only about $5 - $10 per week maybe. Oh and he eats Harrison's pellets which is the brand recommended by the vet but I know there are several great brands out there.

I can buy a bag of food from the bird store in my town and it'll cost me around $6-10 for a decent bag of bulk food. It's not prepackaged and I scoop it into a large bag. It probably weighs 2-4 pounds and it's more than enough to feed my 2 conures for a couple months. They get fruits and veggies every day which aren't very expensive (they're already in the house for human consumption and I just take a little of everything for them)

I also splurge and my guys enjoy the occasional walnut or pistachio which can be expensive but they last forever because they only get them every once in awhile. I try to make sure they eat some of their "meals" before they're allowed to have treats. I feel like I'm feeding kids who want dessert before they eat their dinner.

We spend about $12 on a bag of pellets which lasts for 3-4 months. In addition, we also feed him some of the vegetables and fruits which we buy for ourselves.

I purchased a 5 pound bag of Harrisons High Potency fine for my GCC at about 26.00 and so far it has lasted 3 months and it is half full still. You cannot go wrong with Harrisons pellets.
