Conure first few days home!!

Hi guys,
this is my first post and I just got my first pet bird!! He is a green cheek conure with a cinnamon mutation. It's his third day being home and he seems very happy so far. I'm currently feeding him pellets and he seems to like them as he goes through about 2 tablespoons a day. My question, though, is could anyone help me out by giving me a mini timeline of how I should proceed with him? So far he has hopped onto my fingers about 4 times and he sometimes nips at my fingers, but has never broken any skin. Whenever he bites me or starts screeching i try my best to ignore him and not give him the satisfaction of trying to stop him. Thanks in advance!

I always recommend reading every thread of at least 5 pages in the forum section for maximum variety of knowledge...it will help you see common questions and answers as well as some of the donts.

I've always been very well served using this method. In this read the conure section to start, then diet, behavior, and health in the same manner

Welcome! I love conures, they are such sweet birds - I'm sure you'll really enjoy yours. I'm relatively new to having parrots as well. My experience so far has been that the relationship/trust building is the best way to start, and can take some time to grow. I'd recommend reading some of those threads, as well as the conure threads already mentioned . Hope to see some pictures of your new addition to the family!

Wanted to add, by diverting, what I am meaning is:
For the screaming, always reply with some other type of noise understanding that what he is trying to do the majority of the time, he wants to know where you are, are you OK, is he OK! Our original Tango was inadvertently taught to scream for whatever he wanted by us!
Nipping and biting? You have to learn the language! There is always a reason, and it IS your fault!
Study this thread, it totally turned my relationship around with Bongo! I was the jerk!!

Have to add, huge difference between nip and bite! Nip? Hey stupid! Bite? You just crossed the line!

Timelines create expectations, deviations from which create anxiety...I think.

Best to always carefully and mindfully monitor and observe your new friend, provide enrichment with varied nutrition, a good amount of socialization, and a quiet, clean, and stable cage-environment. Have fun together!

(PS Biting will happen. Read up on bite-pressure training. Figure out the different types of "bites". Reward good behavior with positive reinforcement. Shun especially negative behavior, but be careful not to dole that out wantonly and without merit).
