Emit - Blue Throated Macaw,

R.I.P. - Apollo - DYH Amazon
Hey guys I've been considering getting another macaw, but I'm having trouble deciding exactly what type I want. I've mostly considered either a red fronted macaw or getting another BTM.
I currently have a BTM, which is why I was thinking of those two since they'd be similar in size to my current baby.
I was just wondering what you guys would do if you were in my situation?

How exciting! I can't help with your decision, but want to wish you the best of luck!

Looking forward to hearing what you decide.

In my opinion, you can't go wrong with either species... and honestly, they have very, very, very similar personalities.

Those are two of the best macaws out there... and I have either fostered, or been owned by both.

Last I heard Wendy Craig had two baby blue throats at the moment. I don't know if they're spoken for yet. These guys tend to go quickly...

I talked to Wendy about a week ago . Her Bluethroats are 2500 :)

Have they been sexed yet? Is either one female?

Honestly, I haven't talked to her in ages, and ages...

No , I didn't find out the sex . I like female Macaws too :)

Funny you mention Wendy , I actually got my BTM from her and that's where I was going to get my next fid. I just emailed her inquiring if she had either available. And I was going to hopefully get a male since I already have a male (Emit) and would think same sex pairs would do better in the long run ?

I'd go for the RFM. Love my BTM, and highly recommend them so you couldn't go wrong with another one, but it's also fun to have something similar but different.

Yeah,it avoids a lot of breeding issues.

So, I'm not making this stuff up, eh?! Wendy just does such a wonderful job of socializing her babies... You really can tell the difference in how they are raised...

You can definitely tell she puts a lot of time and effort into raising them. My emit took only a day to start cuddling with me and asking me for head scritches. Which I was amazed since I'd only met him for the first time the day before. He even came home knowing a few things like step up and knowing the appropriate amount of pressure that he could do with his beak without hurting anyone .

So I've finally decided what type of macaw I'll be getting. I'll be getting a BTM from Wendy, he actually was one of the ones offered to me last September when I first contacted her asking about them. His name is Turner and he is 9months old, so just one month younger that my Emit. And the funny part is that they were buddies while at Wendy's. Now I'm just hoping they'll get along again!

I had a question for you guys too, since they're coming from the same breeder would it still be recommended that I quarantine Turner for 90 days before introducing them?

And the first pic is of Turner when I first saw him

the second one is of him now.

Turner is gorgeous! Hopefully they will remember each other and be happy to be reunited:)

Normally I'd say always quarantine, but knowing Wendy I would say it's not necessary.

Congrats on the new boy. He's gorgeous!

Thanks everyone, I'm very excited to welcome him home.
And that's what I was think thekarens, and honestly I have you to thank for finding out about Wendy. You probably don't remember but we met at a bird fair almost a year ago and you recommend I check her out. And now a year later I have a mac addiction lol.

I do remember! Zoe came close to being yours [emoji5]

I'm excited to see how another BTM will work in your house. I'd like a second one, but I'm afraid they'd hate each other and I'd have 2 terrors. You do have the advantage that they knew each other before, so hopefully it will be a very smooth transition.

Your family also got a zon, right? How's he/she doing?

That's the main reason I decided on getting Turner, since they have some history it might make the transition a bit easier. So fingers crossed it goes well lol
And yes we had a DYH zon for a short time, but he sadly passed away too soon. Turns out he hatched with a birth defect, where his yolk never absorbed completely so his body to took it as a foreign object. Which caused a bacterial infection to his liver. Sadly it didn't show up on his blood work we had just done 2 weeks before. But he's in a better place now.

I'm so sorry to hear about the zon :(

Be sure to post pics when Turner comes home. [emoji5]

Will do! I promise there'll be tons of pictures lol. I'll be photographing everything from his arrival to him and emit meeting for the first time. And eventually (fingers crossed) them becoming friends or at least tolerating each other haha.

Yay! You can never have too many BTM pics!
