I recently got a 20yo African Gray and would love to get him some friends. Unfortunately I can't afford another gray lol so I was wondering what other birds would be good companions in a 6x6 cage

I wouldn't get any friends for your Gray unless you really want more parrots for yourself, and definitely don't house them in the same cage. One of them will get injured or even killed if they don't get along.

I agree with the advice above. Adding birds is such a mixed risk.
I think the best bet is to continue to bless this bird with your love.
