Solomon island female eclectus
Hello everyone,

I have been thinking of getting another bird as a companion for my female eclectus. What other breeds do well with ekkies. Rani(female eclectus) is quiet and she likes her cage more then anything. Before we had Rani we had a sun conure who was just one crazy bird. he would hang out with me all day. He was involved in whatever we were doing. His cage was so clean as he was never in the cage:) We miss him quite a bit and Rani seems to be complete opposite of the conure. I am not looking for a replacement bird. I want to get another bird with the thought that she will have someone to play with. I also do not want to get another bird if she will feel that she is not important anymore. Can anyone with multiple birds suggest how their ekkies do with other birds. Also what breeds are your birds. I have been thinking of a Hahns macaw.

Everyones thoughts and ideas are welcome.

She would be happy being alone or another Eclectus male as a companion. I would not suggest a macaw! Even my pair gets on each other's nerves at times. My girl doesn't care for any other birds, all she cares about is dinner time and to sit on our shoulders. She would fly out looking for us if we leave the room for a second. I put my Cockatoo with them on the playstand, she's shown no interest but my male has shown interest. It just depends on each individual bird. Mine seems more content and really don't care to be with other birds.

Thank you Mike.

She seems pretty content with just being in the cage or on top of her cage. There are times when she will walk across the room and go to my husbands office across from her cage. I am trying to take her in other parts of the house to hang out with us but she is more interested in jumping and walking to the cage.

I just dont want to bring another bird in and then she feels left out.

Her cage is huge and is places in the room with a bay window so she can look outside. She seems very scared compared to my conure or may be she is just vigilant and over protective of her self.

I do notice that she eats a lot and is always waiting for dinner time LOL.

They tend to doze off into lala land....they day dream a lot. Always make your presence known so you don't scare them when you do approach. :)

Ha Ha, you just described my girl to a "T".

Jgourd,

Is yours sassy like mine? If she don't want you, she grabs your finger and push you out of the way. She comes when she wants to. When it comes to food, there's no stopping her...lol. I never had a bird that would push me out of the way, she's my first ever, I find that to be funny...

Most of the time she absolutely doesn't want any head or neck scritches and lets your fingers know it.

However, the last two nights, I have fed her, then actively played catch with her for as long as she wanted. When that was done she flew up to my shoulder and from that point on for the night I could rub her neck and give her head scritches.

Mine let's me know by pushing no biting. She only do it on occasion otherwise I would love to record it cause its funny. They're one of the neatest birds I've ever owned.

Please let me know if you are interested in adopting a male Eclectus that LOVEs other birds.
