Good morning!

I have had birds for a long time but have never gotten a clear cut answer whether or not birds can catch our colds. I'm feeling a cold coming on and I wanted to hear from the rest of you your thoughts/experience.

:green2:

LP, I'm sorry that you have not, until now, been able to get a "clear cut answer" to your question about whether birds can catch a cold or not, so I just stood in my front room (largest for this), took a large knife and made aggressive cutting motions all around me, so I could offer you a Clear Cut Answer - No, birds cannot catch a human cold....

And, since I am not a recognized provider of animal health, I offer this from one of those:

"
No, that is just a myth. While it is not healthy for a bird to receive constant direct airflow (too hot or too cold) as it would if placed directly beneath an air vent, respiratory disease will not develop just because of a draft. However, being exposed to a draft is likely to be a contributing factor to stress and will put an additional challenge on your pet's immune system."

Respiratory Disease in Birds | VCA Animal Hospitals

I trust that is sufficient accreditation for my "Clear Cut Answer."

I hope I haven't insulted you intelligence with my flip answer.....I was up all night & it appears that sleep deprivation affects some of us strangely.....

At least you finally came to a good place to get your answer ! ! !

Thank you, this was my impression. None of my birds ever seemed to catch a cold of mine but I just wanted to be sure with my new Peep (Cinnamon Green Cheek Conure). He's such a little sweetheart.

So thanks for all the clear cuts! Awesome!
